As I embark on my new career as an acupuncturist, I reflect on those who have given me the knowledge I now posses. I am currently starting my business and I am overwhelmed with all the paperwork I must get done to practice the wonderful art of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). I am, however, comforted by the fact that I feel ready to help those in need of better health.

I remember the first days of my career at Samra University when I was in Dr. Zhao’s Introductory Botany class. Everything in the beginning was so confusing and so different from Western medicine. Slowly, the information began to make sense and come together each quarter. I enjoyed her classes and learned so much. Dr. Zhao’s love of teaching and her passion for herbology were evident from the beginning. As she would compare different herbs and tell us stories of when she was younger and living in China, herbology came alive. Having to learn Chinese terminology was difficult. In addition to the learning the Chinese names of herbs, which have no meaning to an English speaking person, we had to learn the functions, indications and channels. Dr. Zhao was able to teach us the importance of each herb and have it become useful in practice. During school I would mix different raw herbs at home to practice what I had learned. My husband jokingly referred to me as the “Voodoo doctor.” I am very proud to be able to construct a formula today and have it work with the desired effect without any mystical magic.

Dr. Min Shi was an excellent professor. He is a knowledgeable, intelligent and experienced practitioner of TCM. I learned much of my acupuncture theory and application from him. I appreciate all the preparation he did for his classes. His examinations were challenging and very well written.

I also enjoyed Dr. Zhao as a clinic supervisor. Not only did I learn the application of TCM, I learned the subtleties of dealing with patients. There is far more than just sticking people with needles and hoping they will get better. There is the art of patient care.

I am currently utilizing acupuncture and herbs for my own practice. I feel prepared to treat patients with the knowledge imparted by these two wonderful professors, Dr. Shi and Dr. Zhao Thank you both for your generosity in teaching.

Migraine

I developed a migraine headache that lasted for over 45 days, seeing every doctor I could, including a psychiatrist, neurologist, allergist and dentist with no relief. I finally found my way to Dragon Acupuncture Center. For the first time in 7 weeks I started to feel better and within 2 weeks of treatment I was back to my old self. I can’t begin to recommend Prof Min Shi and Prof Huifang Zhao highly enough. For those who have had migraines can tell you there is nothing worse. If only I had not wasted precious time and money the quality of my life would have been returned far sooner. They truly are the best.

Headache, Shingles

Headache

I just went back to see Dr. Shi for a new injury from a near fall about 10 days ago. Already, the headache I’ve had for the last week is completely gone. Several years ago I saw him to treat a lower back lift injury that I’d had for nearly 5 years. No amount of chiropractic care or massage was helping. He treated me for about 3 or 4 months a couple times each week and I’ve had zero pain since. I’ve recommended him many times over the years. He’s the best.

Headache

I cannot begin to explain how grateful I am for Dragon Acupuncture. I suffered from extreme head pain and facial discomfort for months. The pain would not go away. The headaches and discomfort started to get so bad that I would lose sight in my left eye and felt pounding in the left side of my temple. These sensations caused panic and anxiety. After seeing countless doctors and specialists (western medicine), I started to lose hope that I would ever feel like myself again. No doctor could give me any suggestion as to what was going on, nor did they care to help find a solution. This was very depressing. I went to a naturopath (Dr. Masha in Huntington Beach) and after getting great advice on herbs and natural medicines, she suggested acupuncture. What did I have to lose? So I “yelped” acupuncture offices near me, and Dragon had the best reviews. They recently opened a new office off of Yale in Irvine and I decided to give it a go. The receptionist was very friendly, and after filling out all of the necessary paperwork, I got to see Dr. Shi. He LISTENED to ALL of my symptoms (first time any doctor did this) and took into consideration everything I had experienced within the last year or so. He finally did a full evaluation and almost immediately knew where the source of all of the trouble was coming from. Not one time did any MD, specialist, or western medicine doctor have any idea the spot in which all of my discomfort was stemming from. Dr. Shi then did acupressure and acupuncture treatment and EXPLAINED why I felt the way I felt. The very next day I was a little sore BUT for the first time, I started to feel the left side of my face again and did not have pain shooting through my head. The soreness went away within 24 hours and I have felt almost 100 percent like myself ever since. I went back one more time after the initial treatment for a follow up. Still feeling great and it has been a few weeks since my initial appointment.

I came to Dr. Shi with chronic neck pain and 20 years of daily headaches. I can honestly say that I didn’t believe they could get better. With only a couple months of treatment and some incredibly deep, painful sessions, he did make steady progress with my headaches. I have needed fewer chiropractic adjustments and now, I can report feeling much better overall. Neck Pain, Pinched Nerve

Prof. Min Shi:
Just wanted to take a moment and give you an update with regards to my health condition. As you know, I came into your office last December, 2008 hunched over with an impaired gait, suffering from severe chronic pain and gastrointestinal problems. The pain was resultant of a pinched nerve in my cervical spine, which radiated down through my left shoulder, arm and hand. Gastrointestinal problems were resultant from taking up to 8,000 to 10,000 mgs. of prescription as well as OTC pain medications a day. Additionally, I was unable to drive a motor vehicle or do much of anything else due to pain and use of pain medication. After a brief consultation, you administered your first treatment to me. I was able to walk out of your office upright with a normal gait and reduced pain. I continued to receive your treatments for pain, as well as taking herbal supplements for gastrointestinal problems, for approximately two and half months. Resultant of your of your intervention, I was able to significantly reduce use of prescription and OTC pain medication. Consequently, I was able to manage pain levels so as to regain some normalcy with regards to day to day living. I was able to drive, albeit on a limited basis (45-60 minutes at a time) and gastrointestinal problems were more manageable.

In conclusion, your treatments and herb supplements allowed me to function on a somewhat normal basis. While you were clear in the fact you could not “fix” the actual musculo-skeletal condition (pinched nerve due to cervical spine compression), you were able to provide blessed relief until actual cervical spine fusion surgery was performed. Initially, your treatments were twice a week, then once a week and finally once every ten days as this was all that was needed to manage the pain.

As an interesting side note, during a post-op check with my surgeon, he was quite surprised to see I had recovered some of my cervical nerve reflexes in my left arm. He stated that under most circumstances, once the reflex nerve has died it does not regenerate. I was very happy to hear the news, but not surprised. It is my firm belief that the particular nerve as well as the others, were regenerating/repairing themselves so successfully due to your treatments. I believe your treatments kept those nerves and subsequent muscle groups alive when they otherwise would have died off due to cervical nerve impingement. You were very astute at identifying nerve pathways and providing specific treatments to those areas. As you may recall, it was when I was receiving the full spectrum of needles and/or electrical/heat stimulation that I was the most pain free and relaxed to the point that on more than one occasion I would fall asleep!

Skeptical about acupuncture at first, but came at the recommendation of my friend who was seeing Dr. Zhao for her hands.  I had neck surgery for a bulging disc at two levels (5-6, 6-7) 4 years ago, with a long 6 month recovery time.  Recent severe neck pain keeping me up at night and limited activities during the day… Advil did not help.  After MRI, my neurosurgeon said upper level (3-4) may be pushing on spinal cord and offered surgery again, I willingly agreed because the pain was so bad.

To sum it up, after 12 sessions of acupuncture my neck is much better and since my pain has resolved and symptom-free, my neurosurgeon said it was okay to cancel the surgery.  What a relief!  Really didn’t want to go thru 4 months of healing recovery time after surgery.

I am extremely happy with the acupuncture treatment results, cupping and herbal medicine.  In all honesty, the tiny sterile needles inserted was tolerable and the discomfort with heated needles very short.  The cupping was so relaxing that many times I feel asleep.  The herbal medicine is bitter and expensive, but I feel the quality is excellent and it works for relief of my arthritis pain and inflammation without any adverse side effects.

About the herbal medicine, I’ve had 3 cycles of treatment and I have now stopped taking Advil and no longer need cortisone injections.  Incidentally, I’m Chinese American and try to avoid buying products from China because I question its integrity.  So glad that Dr. Zhou is highly educated from China (PhD) in acupuncture & TCM.  I trust her judgement in selecting the finest herbal medicines.  In the old days, my mother would bring home the raw herbs and boil them for hours in a kitchen pot smelling up the whole house!  Now, the herbal meds are conveniently in powder grain form and you just add boiling water to drink.

Dr. Zhao is kind, calm, friendly and answers all of my questions.  She is experienced practicing in China, Los Angeles (10 years) and Irvine (10 years).  It is worth the 40 minute drive to see her.  Now we’ve moved on to treating my hip bursitis and lower back pain.  Acupuncture is safe and effective and covered by my health insurance.  It’s wonderful relief from my chronic pain.

Neck Pain

I highly recommend Dr. Shi at Dragon Acupuncture. His knowledge and expertise is like none other. I had a bad neck injury 22 years ago and it has caused me years of pain and left me with a very limited range of motion. Over the past 6 years the curve in my neck had gone straight and that has caused me a great deal of additional aches and pains. I have been to several chiropractors and hours of physical therapy over the years with no relief. After just one treatment from Dr. Shi my full turning range of motion has been restored and after the third treatment the curve in my neck was restored too. I am pain free for the first time since forever and I have a huge increase in my energy. That was an unexpected added bonus.

Neck pain

Dr. Zhao is very personable with a very gentle touch. She is highly trained in Chinese medicine and acupuncture with degrees from China and Japan so I feel safe and comfortable with her. She combines acupuncture, acupressure and cupping to relieve my neck pain.

My chicky friend is Chinese so she talked this roundish eye (mostly European with a good portion of Japanese, I’m a mutt I know) into trying this form of medicine and I got to say. As much as I dislike needles and as much as it was out of my comfort zone to begin it’s worth at least trying and I think Dr. Zhao was a big part of me being comfortable.

Neck pain

I walked into my appointment with Dr. Shi experiencing 8/10 neck pain and very limited range of motion. After discussing my pain for a few minutes Dr Shi began his treatment which included: stretching, massage, acupressure, and acupuncture with electro therapy. When I left my appointment my pain was about 2/10 and my range of motion was 100%.
Over the last two years I have tried massage, graston, yoga, medications and countless different styles of pillows to try to relieve my neck pain. I never found anything that gave me significant or lasting relief.
It has been over a week since my visit and my neck pain is still completely gone! (After massages or graston my pain and stiffness would return after a day or two).
Everyone is friendly and welcoming at the office and I never had to wait to see Dr Shi.

I have been suffering from chronic neck pain. And was referred to Dr. SHI by my brother who has had great success with Dr Shi. Pain from neck to Hand

This review is long overdue. I suffered from pain on the lefts side of my body from my neck to my hand. Went to Kaiser where I was told the pain was from acid reflex. Came back here after Dr. Shi told me with confidence he could heal me something no doctor has ever promised me. After months of pain I finally took the first step omg within 2 seasons I felt so much better. It took about 7 sessions but acupuncture did for me what no doctor at Kaiser could do and cured me from my pain. Dr Zhao rocks! I’m having problems with a pinched nerve in my neck and it flows down my right arm. The pain was excruciating.

Neck, shoulder Pain

Several friends recommended Dragon Acupuncture when I was looking for one. I decided to the visit Dragon Acupuncture after reading the long list of medical degrees the doctors have. Dr. Shi and Dr. Zhao seem well known in the field because when I mentioned their names to other acupuncturists, they knew exactly who Dr. Shi and Dr. Zhao are.

Dr. Shi’s acupuncture treatment was extremely effective. My chronic neck and shoulder pain went away after a few visits. I have also gone back to fix my injured hip and he was able to relief the pain in two sessions.

Dr. Shi is also knowledgeable in appoint. He taught me several acupressure methods to use in relieving my migrant headaches. They worked! I highly recommend Dragon. They have two offices and are planning to establish two more locations in OC. That to me is a testimony itself.

Shoulder and Achilles Heel Injury

My name is Barbara and I have been a patient of Dr. Min Shi at Dragon Acupuncture for more than a year now. Initially I had a shoulder injury. Dr. Shi diagnosed this as soft tissue damage due to some repetitive motion. I was unable to work out, play golf, or garden and was in constant pain.

Dr. Shi was compassionate and understanding and always explained what he was doing and how different types of acupuncture could help. I am happy to say after treatments (acupuncture, cupping , moxibustion) with Dr. Shi I am completely pain free and have been able to resume all my activities.

I have also had a stubborn Achilles heel injury and after just 3 treatments, I am at about 85% healed.

Dr. Shi is a terrific doctor and a wonderful man. I highly recommend anyone who has tried conventional medicine that has not worked (pills, cortisone injections) to give Dr. Shi a chance. You just have to believe. I did, and I am so happy that I did.

Shoulder pain

I have a torn AC joint and a pertruding shoulder blade. I have been to every doctor, chiropractor you can think of from OC to NYC and Dr. Shi has proven to be the best for pain and inflammation relief. I swear, as God as my witness, this place is magical. I have suffered with a lot of pain after being injured overseas in the Marine Corps. I have tried everything the VA has thrown at me. Pills, physical therapy, yoga, meditation, EVERYTHING. I came here for the first time about a year ago, and after my first visit, I felt better than I had in a LONNGGGG time! I continued treatment for a quite few sessions and was COMPLETELY FREE OF PAIN! I recently injured my shoulder, came in after a month of pain. Two visits, and I feel great again! Shoulder Pain

Dr. Zhao is wonderful!! After a summer of swimming with Jr life guards, then throwing the ball as quarter back, and then pitching in baseball, my son’s shoulder just collapsed.  He could hardly lift his arm and was in a lot of pain..  Dr Zhao examined him and said she would need to treat him 3x’s.
Well after the 3rd treatment his shoulder was good as new. It was amazing how she knew he would need 3 treatments.. It’s been a couple years now and he hasn’t had another issue. I’m taking my daughter in tomorrow for a pulled hamstring that won’t seem to heal, so I’ll post the update and the healing progress.

Shoulder Pain

We have followed Dr. Shi for years for treatment of pains and aches.  My son is a swimmer and I do fitness training and yoga, so from time to time we have injuries.  We do physical therapy, take pain medications, spent loads of money on PRP…but nothing could work.  My son’s shoulder problems with swimming for 4 years, with all kinds of treatment you can imagine in the world (yes, we did acupuncture too, but not every acupuncture doctor. is the same.) Finally we found Dr. Shi on yelp.  It has been a life change since we found him.  He treated my son’s bad shoulder tendinitis on both sides, not only he avoided surgery but also he went on college to be a college swimmer.
He came back last sat for a week long spring break and sprained his lower back muscle.  He was having a lot of pain.  I worried how he could walk with him luggage in a few days flying many hr. back to school.  I thought of the miracle Dr. Shi.  He treated my son 1 time his pain level went down from a 6 to 3, the second time, the pain went to a 1, after the third time my son can walk some distance and up the stairs with no problem.  It is just as amazing as always!

Shoulder Pain

Shoulder Pain, Franzen Shoulder

I  was diagnosed with frozen shoulder on the left side in May of 2014. I went through treatments with acupuncture, PT, chiropractor and yoga etc. I went through the normal four phases to finally gain full range of motions after two years. However the pain was subsided but never went away. It worsened last November due to too much activities like Yoga, Zumba and  Ballet. I knew that I needed help to get rid of the awful pain but I refuse to take pain killers.

I was referred by a friend to see Dr. Shi. I called and talked with him over the phone. He was very confident and said he can CURE my pain in six sessions of HOT needle acupuncture treatments. I got great relief after the first treatment. I  brought my mom in my second session for her chronic lower back pains.

The bottom line  is Dr. Shi cured my pain with six treatments as he predicted to me over the phone. He also cured my mom’s lower back pain with five treatments. Dr. Shi is truly a great listener and a caring doctor with unique and special skills. We’re very grateful for Dr. Shi’s help.  I’d give him more stars if I could. Highly recommended!

In May 2018, I had an accident that included three torn rotator cuff tendons. At age 72 and with prior surgeries on that shoulder, the recommendation was physical therapy. I adopted a three part strategy: first return of mobility, second rebuild strength, three pain management. By April, 2019, it is time for pain management. Great physical therapist of little use on pain management. The issue is light spasms in both shoulders which make sleeping extremely difficult as well as being creepy during the day.

First meeting with Dr. Shi on a Wednesday – very little impact, following Monday, second meeting – slept through the night for first time in almost a year as well as the next night. Absolutely amazing. Will have a couple more sessions ——— satisfaction level: 100%.

I came to Dragon acupuncture for the side effects from my chemotherapy. So far I have seen Dr. Shi more than a month now. I have had too many medications before so I prefer natural way to manage pain and get better. It is my first time to try acupuncture. Dr. Shi is very knowledgeable and experienced. Tendonitis in Shoulder

I’m so happy I found Dragon Acupuncture and Dr Min Shi! My main reasons for going to acupuncture were longtime tendonitis in one shoulder and in both feet and back pain. After only 6 treatments the pains have practically disappeared. Dr Min Shi is a very serious doctor; thorough and caring. I have been receiving acupuncture treatment from Dr. Huifang Zhao for several weeks now and am astounded by the improvement I am already experiencing.

My acute reason for seeking treatment was a persistent pain in my upper back, on the inside of my scapula, that caused great discomfort in standing straight and even breathing deeply. I had long assumed it was intercostal tension but had not luck with massage therapy. Dr. Zhao came highly recommended to me by Jennifer Soon (an incredible certified rolfer located in Irvine) and my pain had all but disappeared within three treatments.

I am an avid swimmer with severe asthma and have always struggled with access to deep breathing which severely limits my endurance. Dr. Zhao explained that scar tissue, from a double pneumothorax I had at infancy, has bound up by shoulders/ribcage/back. The acupuncture is helping to release and relax the tense fascia and I am so thankful to have  not only treated my chronic pain but also found a solution for over all wellness.

Dr. Zhao is incredibly talented, kind and gentle in her treatment. I was very skeptical of the efficacy of acupuncture before seeing her, and she is always willing to explain the process and logic behind the treatment. The results then speak for themselves.

Shoulder and Upper Back Pain

I was referred to Dragon Acupuncture by my physical therapist. After 2 MRI’s, physical therapy, cortisone injections my shoulder and upper back pain wasn’t progressing as fast and responding to treatment like it should. Back and Hip pain

I decided to go to Dragon Acupuncture after reading reviews and I am so thankful I did. Dr. Shi has helped me tremendously! I had several problems with my back and hips and felt like I could hardly walk without pain and stiffness. My story may be similar to many clients. However, my situation had reached dire straits. I had gone through four back surgeries in three years, which ultimately led to the fusion of L4-L5-S1 vertebrates. I had experienced relief to the symptoms prior to back surgery, but I had gained several new aches and pains. My condition was so extreme that I could not return to work nor could I perform the normal daily tasks required by a father or husband.

Bulge Disc, Low Back Pain

Before seeing Dr. Zhao, I was always afraid of acupuncture. I have never liked needles and I didn’t understand the philosophy behind acupuncture. I had been seeing a spinal specialist for a few years because I have spinal stenos and frequently bulge discs due to my condition. My spinal specialist treated me with pain pills, muscle relaxers, and steroid injections in my spine. This treatment made me sick, and I worried about the side affects. While getting a steroid injection in my back at a hospital, a nurse suggested I look into alternative medicine. I had a friend who had seen Dr. Zhao because of three failed back surgeries. After years of back pain, he finally found relief.

I finally decided to give acupuncture a try. During my first visit Dr. Zhao could tell that I was nervous and she was very patient with me. She explained how acupuncture works and relieved my anxiety. It took only one visit to convince me that acupuncture works and it is not scary or painful.

My first visit to see Dr. Zhao I was hunched over and could barely walk. When I left her office, I was walking upright and in a lot less pain. I did not need pain pills and I recovered a lot quicker from my bulged discs. I have continued to see Dr. Zhao for my back, as well as for other conditions. I recently bulged three discs in my back and before seeing Dr. Zhao was in a great deal of pain. After the first visit, my pain was lessened considerable. Low Back Pain, Herniated Disc

I am forever grateful for the care you have given me. As an active 35 year old male, I suffered a herniated disc on Dec 18, 2008 which was the worst injury in my life. The herniated disc was a result of trying to lift too much weight in the gym. An MRI showed that it was a sequestered and extruded disc at L5-S1 and that it was pressing up against my spine causing numbness, tingling, and weakness in my left leg. My orthopedic doctor wanted to perform surgery right away based on the severity shown in the MRI. I decided to hold off on surgery and pursue a non-invasive approach thru acupuncture, water therapy (daily walking exercises in a swimming pool), and rest.
It has been almost 3 months of recovery since the injury and my back has significantly improved w/o undergoing back surgery. Low Back Pain, Bulging Disc

I have dealt with pack pain for close to 20 years. MRI’s have shown three bulging discs in the lumbar spine. For the most part, I have been able to manage the pain by doing exercise and yoga to build up, and keep strong, the support muscles around these discs. But occasionally, my back has locked up and gone into painful muscle spasms. These flare-ups are very debilitating! Medical doctors have attempted to help me by prescribing physical therapy, muscle relaxers, and painkillers. I always got very sick from these medicines, and my back still didn’t get better for a week of more. Physical therapy helped somewhat but it took a long time.

Recently, when I experienced one of these untimely lumbar spasms, I decided to try acupuncture. When I came to see you, I could barely move, without an electric pain shooting down my leg. My husband had to help me get in and out of the car, and walking was difficult. You immediately placed three needles on my left hand, and told me to bend forward, then backward, then side-to-side. To my surprise, I was able to move in all directions. I was also able to easily walk down the hall, sit down, stand up, and even do some squats, upon your instruction. I was utterly amazed! I was happy that my husband, Paul, was with me to witness this incredible “healing”, because I was sure that no one would believe me. Twenty minutes after arriving at your office, I walked (almost bounced) out the door, pain free!

I have shared this story with many people, including the neurologists, for whom I used to work. They agreed with me that ACUPUNCTURE WORKS!!!

I have been in pain for over 2 years. I went to many doctors for my pain, everyone would say we can take care of it but, the pain never got better. Then one day I was talking to someone at the health food store and they told me about acupuncture. I initially started seeing Dr. Shi over a year ago.   I am very critical of my care and read on his website he had many years practicing Chinese medicine acupuncture.   I tried medications and a bunch of other methods to reduce the pain in my back, none of them work.  Over the last year I have had Dr Shi work on my herniated disk in the L4 & L5 and in the S1 area of my back.  Dr. Shi was very thorough and paid extra attention to the areas of pain i needed attention too.  My pain level used to be an 8 or 9 and is now down to a 2 or 3 working with Dr. Shi over the last year.

He has also helped me out with sinus headaches and cramping in my feet issues with acupuncture and Chinese herbs.  First time taking Chinese herbs and they worked extremely well for me.

I highly recommend you see Dr. Shi if you have any neck, back, arthritis issues or pains in the body before you start taking a bunch of medicine.

Dr. Shi is incredibly knowledgeable with all of his practices. The best therapists are the ones that don’t make you go again and again. He will give an honest impression of how many sessions you may require and he’s usually right on. I went in for my low back which had locked up and he got me moving within a few cupping sessions. Been having lower back pain since I hurt it almost 20 years ago. Fast forward to 2019, the pain has manifested specially when I’m getting up from bending down to pick up things. After having six visits my back feels so much better. There is still little to less pain which I attribute to old age :), can’t do anything about that. Sciatica

If you are suffering from pain, get yourself to Dragon Acupuncture. Dr. Min Shi, Ph.D, LAc, CURED my excruciating sciatica pain. Anti-inflammatory and pain medicine had not helped; I couldn’t sleep, sit or drive. After a few sessions with Dr. Shi, I am back on my yoga mat as well as the ballet barre. I was noticeably better after the first visit, but Dr. Shi continued to probe my spine, uncovering older injuries that had apparently never healed; he treated the underlying cause of my pain. While he was treating my back pain, he also worked on my finger joints, which had been diagnosed as being arthritic; I am now back knitting. I can’t explain HOW acupuncture works (balancing the energy, keeping the normal flow of Qi unblocked); all that I need to know is that it DOES work — and in a holistic, natural and safe way. Over the years (in Chicago), I had been to a few acupuncturists, always with successful results, but never with the dramatic results that Dr. Shi has achieved. He earned his Ph. D.D. in acupuncture from China Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in 1994 after 11 years of medical training, has practiced for 15 years in China and 11 years in the U.S. and been a TCM professor at universities in China and the U.S.  I hope that I don’t injure myself again, but it’s reassuring to know that, if I do, I’ll have a doctor who will most surely cure me.

Hip Bursitis

Leg Pain

My 14 year old son strained his hamstring playing competitive soccer approximately 7 weeks ago.  We have been using muscle stimulation and some physical therapy exercises for weeks, however he was still in some pain and unable to do anything physical.

An MD parent on our team suggested acupuncture, so I found Dragon Acupuncture on yelp after searching for top reviews.  I contacted their new location on E. Yale Loop near my home, and booked a consultation right away for my son to see Dr. Shi.

The offices are in a very nice medical building on the 1st floor (you can park right in front), the office and procedure rooms are very clean and the staff very professional.  Within a few minutes Dr. Shi was able to locate the precise area(s) of the hamstring causing the most pain for my son, and indicated he could heal him with approximately 3 treatments.

I have to say we have NEVER used acupuncture, so I was in doubt, but willing to give it a try so my son can return to practicing and playing again.  After inserting a couple of needles in key positions (and a heated lamp), my son laid on his side for approximately 20 minutes.  Dr. Shi came in and removed the needles, and my son stood up and could not believe how much better he felt immediately.  I was worried it may be only temporary, however the following morning my son’s leg felt even better, almost 100% without pain!

We returned after two days for the 2nd visit, and the pain has almost disappeared completely.  We have one more visit in two days, and Dr. Shi is confident my son will be pain-free and able to return to sports immediately (after 3 visits within 5 days).  I’m not sure how many additional weeks we would have been waiting for my son’s hamstring to heal, however I wish I had known this would be so effective to treat this type of injury!

I found their prices to be very reasonable, and I highly recommend Dr. Shi and Dragon Acupuncture.  Save yourself time and Dr. / Physical Therapy visits and check them out, you won’t be disappointed.

I decided to have acupuncture after having pain in my leg for several months. I was nervous and didn’t know what to expect. From the moment I walked in I was greeted by the most pleasant receptionists. Both of the girls are so sweet and welcoming, they make you feel right at home. Dr Zhao was very kind and worked hard to find what was wrong with me. She tried different things and realized I had a pinched nerve in my leg. She always greeted me with a smile and made me feel like I was going to be okay. After seeing her for a month or so she made my leg feel 90% better. Mind you the pain was unbearable at times. Knee Pain

I have been an athlete my entire life and in and out of PT treatments for my knees. I decided to try acupuncture at the suggestion of a friend. Dragon Acupuncture and Herb Center’s Dr. Min Shi had my knees feeling better after one session. After the second session, I was not noticing knee pain, even while running. In my third session we were able to move on to focus on a long term back problem;  I would be shocked if he weren’t able to help me overcome this pain.

Knee Pain

My mother had been complaining of pain in her knees for many years. While she was visiting us from out of state I brought her here in the hopes that acupuncture might relieve some of her chronic knee pain.

Nerve Pain, Intercostal Neuralgia

Thank you such much for helping to relieve my nerve pain. I have been suffering from chronic pain in my left side since Nov. 2008. I have been to four different medical doctors trying to get the right diagnosis. I was first told the rib cage pain was due to the UC’1’ll autoimmune system problem that I have. Then I was told it was simply an inflamed rib cage disorder, and next I was told it was shingles pain. I saw a neurologist yesterday who thinks it may be a nerve that is compressed in my thoracic spine, and he has ordered a MRI. I have been taking 5 different prescription pain killers, and all it does is mask the pain, and make me very sleepy and unable to function.

After only 2 acupuncture treatments and some Chinese herbs, I was completely pain free for almost three weeks! Although the pain keeps coming back, the only thing that helps alleviate it completely for awhile is acupuncture. After the treatments there is no need for prescription drugs. Even the neurologist agreed that though he did not understand how it works, that it is an effective treatment for pain. So I will keep coming for help.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

I am being treated by the doctors for almost 2 years now. When I began my treatment with them I had been suffering with Bilateral carpal tunnel for almost 5 years. And at this time I was being told that there was no hope of me ever gaining the use of my hands again, and that it was something that I would have to learn to live with. By this time my life had almost come to a stand still. I was unable to work or care for my every day needs, I needed help with the smallest of task. None of the many doctors that I was seeing was able to control or stop the PAIN and SWELLING that I was living with every day of my life. At this point I told my daughter and her husband that I was sure that Dr. Min Shi/Dr. Huifang Zhao would be able to help him. She was a little afraid because he was so little, but because I was so sure we took him into the office. And within hours he was crying and playing again. You see he was so sick that he was no longer able to make crying sounds. How happy my daughter was to see that her little baby was going to be OK. Now it is very normal for her and her family to call the office for help when he get sick.

I brought my wife to see Dr. Shi on a recommendation from a physician ( Yale graduate) friend of mine to treat her for carpal tunnel syndrome. My wife was scheduled for surgery the following week. After 2 sessions my wife improved so much that she cancelled her surgery. Seven treatments later het numbness and pain is gone. Bursitis

I, along with many others, have received relief from a long-standing painful condition with the assistance of Dragon Acupuncture. In my case, it was bursitis which kept me from living a full life. Regular medical treatment didn’t help with it at all.

What I would like to address is the fear which kept me from even trying acupuncture. The idea of needles made me nervous, and I could not imagine saying, “Go head, stick me!” I thought it would be a prolonged painful session. Why would I want to do that?

As we begin this New Year, I feel compelled to put into writing, a sincere THANK YOU for the incredible results that I have received from your acupuncture treatments. As you know, I have dealt with back and neck issues for most of my adult life, due to a serious car accident in my teens. In addition to that, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia about six years ago. At the time that I first came to see you last September, I was experiencing significant joint pain, sleeplessness, heaviness in my chest, hoarseness in my throat, and a general lack of energy.

I really didn’t know what to expect from acupuncture, but having tried just about everything else, I decided to give it a try. It has definitely been one of my better life decisions! Rheumatoid Arthritis

This letter is written to thank you so much for all you have done for me and my condition. At the time that I started to come to you in September of 2003, I was suffering from severe joint pain due to my recent diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis. My rheumatologist said that my rheumatoid factor was “off the charts” and he suggested that I start on Plaquenil or Methatrexate to help alleviate my symptoms. After much research on the internet about the side effects of these drugs, I opted to hold off with these medications and look into alternative forms of healing. I told the doctor that I would like to try acupuncture and herbs first, and he was in complete agreement with my decision. This is what brought me to you.

Within several weeks of my first treatment I felt like a new person! I am now able to resume my weight lifting program, my running and yoga. I no longer wake up with flu-like symptoms and pain. With the herbs you have given me, I feel more energy during the day, and a greater ability to fall asleep at night. My rheumatologist is amazed at my progress. In addition, I am no longer taking any kind of over-the-counter pain medication. I am a firm believer that acupuncture in medicine is the way of the future and it is my hope that all western practicing doctors will incorporate this healing modality into their practice.

Multiple Sclerosis

I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis over eighteen years ago. The disease has progressed over the years causing neurological damage to my brain stem and spinal cord. My current symptoms include severe fatigue, poor balance, cognitive problems, difficulty swallowing, and speech difficulty, among others. My neurologist suggested I see a chiropractor to help me with my neck pain. I began seeing my chiropractor, Dr. Buettner. When I informed her that I’ve had a constant headache for 14 years due to multiple sclerosis she took note. I didn’t think much of it because my neurologist told me the only way I can get rid of the headache was to operate and sever a nerve in my face or continue taking Neurontin or other pain medication. Approximately six weeks after seeing Dr. Buettner, I no longer have a headache. I am like a new person enjoying each and every moment. I am very happy and excited about the day. After successfully treating me for my neck, the chiropractor recommended acupuncture for my other MS symptoms, particularly fatigue.

On August 6, I had my first appointment. The doctor checked my pulse and asked questions regarding my health and current symptoms. Dr. Zhao inserted several needles in my body (head, hands, feet, and stomach). The needles were uncomfortable at first but the pain subsided. Dr. Zhao said if the needles didn’t hurt, they wouldn’t be in the right spot. The pain subsides after a few seconds/minutes. After 30 minutes, she removed the needles and asked me to return the next day. She prescribed herbs that I am to take three times a day. After my third treatment, there was a dramatic improvement in my fatigue and balance. I was able to walk unassisted. It was like a miracle. I have not been able to walk unassisted for a long time (a year or more). I feel like a new person. I just know that with continued treatment, I am only going to improve with age!!!

I truly believe in alternative medicine. Thank you Dr. Zhao for improving the quality of my life.

Broken Arm

I want to highly recommend Dragon  Acupuncture after  Dr. Shi helped me tremendously with a broken arm after a terrible fall in my home.  I broke my elbow and after physical therapy, decided  to try acupuncture for the first time.  I feel after only a few sessions my arm was back  to normal.  It was truly amazing.  I want people to know western medicine is not the only way to deal with pain.  I am now a true believer in this form of medicine and will gladly tell anyone my story.

Thumb Sprain

I sprained my thumb playing baseball on a Friday, and over the weekend it did not improve very much at all- even making it hard to drive or pick up a bowl. I couldn’t even touch my thumb to my pinky. Immediately after my first visit, though, I was able to touch my thumb to my finger with ease. I never was someone who got excited for acupuncture or anything, but after three days of treatment and an almost full range of motion back, I am sure to come back for more.

Dr Zhao is an amazing healer! … She is knowledgeable, intuitive and uses a holistic approach to healing. I started seeing Dr Zhao about 1&1/2 years ago. I was having problems with my menstrual cycle as well as lower back pain. Today, my health is much better and I keep recovering. She took a holistic approach and really helped me with healing my overall health – energy, immunity and stamina. That approach helped recover the problems I was having. To give you another example, last year I went to her one day, for my normal treatment and I just mentioned that I was having some upper back pain, she wanted to treat it and told me it was very early stage shingles. She told me she would treat me for the next 2 weeks (for shingles) and that I should visit the doctor immediately. My shingles recovered in less that 10 days and was not at all as bad as the cases I have heard of. I credit that entire recovery to Dr Zhao, including my recovering health today. Infertility

My wife and I have been trying to conceive for a year. We tried naturally and later sought the help of a fertility clinic to help us achieve our little miracle. At the same time, we realized the stress we were both feeling as we were going through fertility had put a lot of anxiety on us both mentally and physically. We were delighted to meet Dr. Zhao. We both found Dr. Zhao to be a very caring, compassionate and kind doctor that wanted us to be successful in starting our family. We started going to see Dr. Zhao twice a week for about a year and she helped us tremendously in calming our mind and body.

In addition Dr. Zhao also said that she could use acupuncture to help with some of my fertility problems. Semen analysis done at the fertility clinic showed that while I had a high count, my mobility and morphology was low. After about 6 months of receiving treatment from Dr. Zhao, both my mobility and morphology had doubled.

After trying fertility treatments a number of times, we decided to try to conceive naturally. With Dr. Zhao’s help, she was able to help both of us relax and naturally conceive after trying for 3 months.

I am new to acupuncture and chose this office based on the positive reviews. I was going through the IVF process and read that acupuncture can improve implantation. I went once to try it before my transfer procedure. It was very relaxing. Infertility and Other Issues

Dr. Zhao is an expert acupuncturist. I can say that because I’ve treated previously with another acupuncturist for approx. 9 months and in comparison, he was not as skilled as Dr. Zhao, at least when it came to my medical issue. I am 40 years old & treating for infertility. Dr. Zhao not only brought my FSH down to the normal levels, but she also brought my estradiol level down to normal levels, as well as improved the lining of my uterus which of course helps with the implantation of the embryo! This was all within approx. 2 months. Dr. Zhao explained that cramping during periods means that the lining of the uterus is not healthy and cannot easily support implantation of the embryo. With her treatment, ALL my PMS symptoms went away. The previous acupuncturist also brought down my FSH to normal levels, but that caused my estradiol level to go well above the normal levels which in turn almost made me ineligible for IVF. From my research and in talking to my physician, if the FSH or estradiol or both are above normal limits, it means that the quality of the eggs is not good and chances of pregnancy are slim.

Back to Dr. Zhao, she is a true professional who really cares about her patients whole health. When I had unrelated problems with my neck and shoulders, diarrhea (had it for almost 2 months with frequency of 2-3 x a day. She made it go away within a week of treatment & herbs), cold with cough, sore throat (she made it go away in just one visit!), and muscle twitch in my left calf, she treated them all as part of my overall treatment for infertility without charging extra.

When she initially examined me, she also noted that my tongue was black and she said its because of very poor blood circulation, and this would be a major barrier for pregnancy. I did not believe her since I’ve had this black tongue from childhood. But after a month of treatment and herbs, my tongue is now a very healthy pink! After 40 years of my life, I find out that I actually have a pink tongue! She makes sure the depth of the needle is just right. She monitored my condition at each visit and adjusted the herbal teas according to my IVF schedule, and she took my financial situation into consideration. At my initial visit, when I told her I could not afford to buy the herbal teas from her, she gave me the herbal prescriptions and even told me where I could go to fill them at a much affordable cost. I was really impressed by this because my previous acupuncturist insisted that I could only buy my herbal medicine from him at a very steep price. This was a turning point for me because it made me realize that she wasn’t in it for only the money, but she truly cared about the health & well being of her patients and to give them the best care available.

On an ending note, I thank the Good Lord, Jesus Christ, for leading me to Dr. Zhao. She has done her part as she promised me at our initial meeting. And I know that Christ will breathe the gift of life to the embryos transferred recently – “With God all things are possible” Matthew 19:26.

I first came to Dragon Acupuncture as a Type 1 diabetic looking to gain better control of my diabetes, as well as looking to conceive a baby. Upon my initial consultation, Dr. Zhao gave both my husband and I a thorough evaluation to find the best ways of working with us based on our specific needs. I began treatment immediately, twice a week. After only one month of treatment, not only did my sugar levels decrease and stabilize tremendously, but I also found out I was pregnant! This review is long overdue. Dr Zhao came highly recommended to me by a different doctor and I loved that she had an impressive training and experience in both Chinese and Western medicine – which is very rare.
Dr Zhao is extremely kind, gentle and knowledgeable.

I came initially to treat acne I had from getting off of the pill and for pain in one of my arms. After one session, the pain was gone! I was about to try getting pregnant for the first time and asked Dr Zhao for her guidance and help to boost our chances. Dr Zhao was brilliant and helped me figure out my cycle quickly. I saw her twice a week and she prescribed me herbs. Within 2 cycles, I was pregnant (and it cleared also my skin)! I kept seeing Dr Zhao through half my pregnancy and would have the whole time if I had been able to. I live in Los Angeles and drove all the way to her Irvine office. Dr Zhao helped maintain a stronger pulse and was a tremendous help through all pregnancy’s discomforts and stress. Dr Zhao’s calm and experience were extremely reassuring, and I always felt much stronger after our weekly sessions.

For my second pregnancy, there was no doubt I was going to see Dr Zhao again! I became pregnant again in the second cycle. I saw her both times on ovulation day which I am sure tremendously helped. For my second child, I actually took a pregnancy test that looked negative but Dr Zhao told me she really thought I might be from my pulse and everything. And she was right!

Both my pregnancies went smoothly thanks to Dr Zhao. I cannot recommend Dr Zhao enough if you are trying to get pregnant, for helping keep baby and you healthy during pregnancy, for pain or anything. She is exceptional and so professional !

On the logistics side, her office is very modern, clean and convenient with tons of parking. Her front desk team was always friendly and helpful in scheduling or rescheduling if needed. Amazing experience all around !

Uterine Bleeding, Irregular Menstruation (hydrosalpinx)

I came to Dr. Zhao in January 2009 for a series of “female problems” that I didn’t feel were being well managed by western medicine. She began an intensive treatment schedule that resulted in a significant change by the second or third month. Spotting and ovarian pain greatly diminished and over time, the former almost completely disappeared. After 10 months of successful treatment, I underwent a very stressful few weeks when I had to move residences, undergoing all of the financial and physical strain that such a major life change incurs. As a result, I had a relapse. Menstruation began a few days late and then continued long past the normal period. Because I’d moved more than 40 miles away from Dr. Zhao, I tried to find a new practitioner. On day 11 of my period, I went to an acupuncturist in the building where I worked. I saw absolutely no result from her treatment.

Two days later I consulted another acupuncturist — this one was highly recommended as a specialist in women’s health who had many years of experience dealing with gynecological problems. Her first acupuncture and herbal treatment did seem to help slow the blood flow for a day or two, but by Monday I was bleeding profusely. I saw her again on Tuesday morning, and she blamed the relapse on the fact that I’d exercised too much over the weekend. She gave me another treatment and a new set of herbs.

This time, the bleeding did not diminish at all. In fact, it seemed to worsen. I was so upset, I was considering going to a western doctor for progesterone, but called Dr. Zhao first. She urged me to come back to her clinic for treatment because by this time I was on day 19, which was, she said “too much.” The highly recommended acupuncturist had seemed not at all concerned that my bleeding was persisting for so long.

Dr. Zhao was shocked that the “experienced” doctor had not performed a moxa treatment. She performed an acupuncture treatment and moxa right away, plus gave me a moxa stick to use at home until the bleeding stopped. I could see a difference right away; the bleeding had diminished by about 2/3s. But when I reported the change to Dr. Zhao the next morning, she was not satisfied with the result and told me to use the moxa for an additional hour that day. The treatment worked and the bleeding stopped. By the next day, Saturday, I went to Dr. Zhao for a follow-up treatment and had only minimal spotting. That, too, decreased over the next two days until I had no more discharge. It was a huge relief.

I was so happy to be back in Dr. Zhao’s care that I decided not to try to find an acupuncturist closer to my new home. I happily travel almost 100 miles round trip once a week so that I can be in the best hands possible.

In 1999, I underwent surgery to remove uterine fibroids. Five years later, I was trying to have a baby and required a second myomectomy. During this procedure, my surgeon noticed that my fallopian tubes had fused to my ovaries and were filled with fluid, possibly as an aftermath to the prior surgery. It was a condition easily fixed with more surgery, but his center was not willing to perform it for fertility reasons on a woman over 40 and it was otherwise not a serious condition. He recommended IVF with donor eggs as the only solution to my infertility, which was not feasible at the time.

Another five years passed, and during a routine ultrasound to monitor my fibroids, it was discovered that the fluid-filled tubes had developed into true hydrosalpinx; the right one measured almost 9 cm and the left one measured 5 cm. My physician was shocked by the size of the hydrosalpinx, said that they had to “come out,” and was surprised that they were not causing me any pain.

After the ultrasound procedure and my physician’s reaction, however, my tubes did begin to ache tremendously. I did not have health insurance and did not want to undergo surgery. Instead, I found Dr. Zhao on the internet and consulted with her. She explained that the hydrosalpinx were probably a traumatic reaction to my first surgery, exacerbated by the hormonal imbalances I was experiencing owing to pre-menopause. She began treating me three times a week for the first few months, then twice a week and finally once a week, with a combination of acupuncture and herbal teas.

Within a few months, the pain disappeared and my period began to become regular. With the exception of a relapse that occurred during a stressful move, my between-period spotting and prolonged menstruation diminished or ceased. And then, a year after treatment began, a new ultrasound revealed that the hydrosalpinx had completely resolved!

I wish I had learned about the benefits of acupuncture when I was first diagnosed with fertility problems more than 15 years ago. It could have saved me a tremendous amount of pain, discomfort and emotional distress — and, who knows, I might have even been able to get pregnant.

I would recommend Dr. Zhao to any woman who is experiencing infertility, irregular periods or pain associated with menstruation.

I have been under the care of several specialists for the past 10 years  for hormonal imbalance and severe insomnia. During the several years of treatments I’ve received from western medical doctors they have yet to correct the imbalance or alleviate any of the symptoms associated. For 10 years I fought a reoccurring overwhelming depression that I blame on hormonal changes, as I am not a depressed person by nature. Tired of this sad, fearful and miserable condition, I was fortunate enough to have stumbled upon Dr. Zhao by some cosmic coincidence perhaps.

I was actually bringing my mother in who had been in a car accident and though there was no medical explanation as to why she was still feeling “wrong”, her equilibrium was off. Her energy was low, her overall disposition not good. She had pretty much exhausted all treatments that Western Medicine had to offer. I’d also be remiss not to mention at that point she was also financially strapped so it was my first indication of what sort of healer Dr. Zhao was when she insisted my mother come in, in spite of her inability to make compensation. I dropped her off and came back 2 hours later only to find that Dr. Zhao still working on her. Finally, just as we were leaving (and by the way, this at 7:30 on a Sat. night) I found myself telling Dr. Zhao how because of my hormonal imbalances I was always feeling sad and fearful for no good reason. I was always a very outgoing and sociable person who couldn’t even stand the phone to ring anymore. In that second I knew I was not getting out of the door so fast. Before I could say, “I’ll think about it and get back to you” she had me on the table like a human pincushion. She also started me on teas and herbs right away. The very next day we went to the beach and I couldn’t believe how I felt. I actually had fun and didn’t spend the day worrying about sharks coming to eat my children or anything. Seriously, it only got better, I started to live again. I am more balanced, calm and happy. I just finally feel normal again.

I should mention that she also healed my mother, who finally, got back to her old self who, by the way, at 73 years old promptly took off again globetrotting as she always does when she’s feeling her old self.

In closing, I would like to mention that I recently missed several appointments, mostly due to being busy, then the holidays. A couple of months had gone by during which time I started to get some premenopausal symptoms, hot flashes and headaches to be precise. I thought nothing would help those headaches short of a full frontal lobotomy. That was 3 days ago. I have been taking my herbs as directed and the headaches are completely gone. Among other things, Dr. Zhao has relieved my upper back pain, helped speedup the healing process for my broken toe, and assisted me greatly when I quit smoking, and achieved great success with our acupuncture face lifts, which is a whole other story!

All in all, her wonderful demeanor, high intelligence, keen instincts, and great sense of humor make it a joy to keep my weekly visits. Not something I do because I have to, but because I want to. I love Dr. Zhao!

Hypertension

While on a checkup with the flu, my M. D. noticed that my blood pressure was a bit high. Dr. Zhao suggested that I take twice-daily measurements in order to be sure that it wasn’t a temporary spike. After this confirmation, she began treating me with acupuncture and herbal supplements, and asked me to continue taking my blood pressure each day. Within three days there was a marked change: my average diastolic B. P. had dropped by 5 points and my average systolic B. P. has also dropped. Within a month, both had dropped to just above normal. If you follow Dr. Zhao’s instructions and have her acupuncture treatment, I think you’ll be very happy with the results you gain in a lower blood pressure.

Asthma/Allergies

Thank you for your help with my asthma/allergies. I have had this issue since childhood (now age 44) and the only relief I thought available was the western way by using prescribed drugs such as inhalers. Also, doctors seemed to bounce me around with different medications and did not seem to care about my complete well being.

At first I was mystified by your treatments and than later in awe of how symptom free I was after 2 months of seeing you. Despite my family having cold/flu, I have not had a cold/flu during this treatment as my immune system is working great. I have not had to use my inhalers and my general health is excellent. You truly care about me and my entire health.

Since going to you it has opened my mind up to alternative methods in dealing with my asthma/allergies. I was a non-believer of alternative care such as acupuncture. You have completely changed my opinion. You are very caring, perceptive and deliver proper treatments.

After 18 years of struggling with asthma, the doctors visits, the expense and daily medication regime, I am finally free – thanks to you!

When I was diagnosed with asthma at age 23, I was promptly prescribed two types of inhalers for daily use and continued as a slave to those inhalers for 18 long years. My life demanded I move several times over those 18 years and therefore I changed doctors but none of my doctors took the time to talk to me about my condition and treatment options or attempt to cure my illness. Instead, I was regularly expected to participate in a bizarre ritual for my doctors; they would prescribe medication to treat my symptoms (not heal the condition), I would take the medication for another year, then I would visit my doctor to renew the prescriptions. The bizarre part is the visits always consisted of the doctor listening to my breathing for about 10 seconds to determine I still had asthma – as if it could magically disappear by merely treating the symptoms – then the doctor would renew my prescription. Year after year, I was put through the exact same process no matter who my doctor or insurance carrier was. Each month I was forced to struggle with pharmacists to refill my prescriptions.

Meanwhile, I was well aware of the damage the inhalers were causing to my body but I thought I had to endure the long-term damage in order to control the asthmatic symptoms each day. The concept of actually curing my asthma was never introduced to me. That is, until I met one of your students who is a co-worker of mine.

Approximately 6 months prior to my life-changing conversation your student, I had been placed on yet another experimental asthma medication by my doctor. Within a few months of using the new prescription, I was experiencing terrible side effects – a throat infection that affected my voice and unusual bleeding from everywhere. I was expressing my deep concern and utter frustration with western medicine when my friend suggested acupuncture and Chinese herbal tea. I had become quite fearful for my health so I called your office that day and scheduled my first acupuncture appointment.

From the very first phone call with your office, I knew I was on to something completely different. Payment and insurance was not your first priority – rather I was made to feel my health and well-being was more important to you. My health history and beginning an affective treatment were the topics of discussion. My first acupuncture treatment was an incredible experience – both relaxing and rejuvenating. After only four weekly visits, I was able to stop using both inhalers completely – after 18 years of daily medication! It’s been 5 months since I stopped using inhalers and I haven’t felt this good since I was a teenager.

Over the past few months, you’ve helped reduce menstrual pain, repaired a neck injury and reversed the growth of a bunion on my foot. Amazingly, each problem required only one treatment. I want to use the word ‘miracle’ but I don’t think that’s appropriate when used to describe an age-old process like acupuncture. It certainly is a wonder acupuncture isn’t widely accepted and used in the U. S. and the world.

I intend to do everything I can to spread the word and share my good fortune with anyone who’ll listen to my experience. You deserve the highest praise for helping people become whole and healthy again. You will always have my deepest gratitude for what you’ve done for me.

Eczema

I’m writing to say thank you for changing my life. I know that sounds dramatic, but you have done something I thought was impossible. After over 30 years of itching, bleeding, cracking and oozing, my skin is soft and smooth. Before coming to you, I’d been to probably 10 doctors over the span of 20 or so years and tried every kind of cream and ointment from tar-based ointments to steroid ointments. I planned my life around when I could get my next steroid shot or pill, because after a steroid shot, I’d feel good for about 2 weeks. Unfortunately, my doctor told me it wasn’t safe to take a steroid shot more than once every 5 months or so. My wife was also very concerned because she said she could see the side effects of topical steroid use – my skin was starting to look red and thick and kind of like an elephant’s skin.

In other aspects of my life, I have always been very happy. In fact, when my wife would ask me “is there anything you wish was different in your life?” my normal response was “I wish I had someone else’s skin. ”

I came to you because a friend of ours had a small child who also had eczema, but it was only on her hands. She itched and itched until her hands bled. Our friend – the mother- didn’t want her child to use a steroid cream because her daughter still put her hands in her mouth and she was afraid her daughter would eat the steroids by accident. You gave her an herbal ointment- no acupuncture- and within a few weeks, her eczema was completely under control. No itching, no bleeding.

When I heard about how you helped our friend’s daughter, I thought, “I have nothing to lose. ”The last 2 doctors I’d visited (an allergist and a dermatologist) had just told me there was nothing they could do for me because my case was so severe (except give me more steroids).

When I came to you, I was scheduled for a steroid shot within 2 weeks. My condition was as bad as it had ever been. After the first treatment, I admit I was skeptical. I really didn’t feel any different. My wife urged me to go back to you for the second treatment, so I did. You gave me acupuncture, herbal ointments and some herbal medicines to take and within days, I noticed a difference.

By the end of the first week, I could see my skin was starting to clear up. By the second week, I felt so much better that I decided to cancel my steroid shot. By the end of four weeks, my skin was as good as it had ever been – 75% itch free. That was amazing to me, and I would have been happy if that’s all we achieved. But I am grateful that 75% wasn’t good enough for you. It’s been 3 months now, and I am almost completely itching free. I no longer wake my wife up at night with the sound of my itching, I no longer have open sores on my body, and I no longer cringe when people touch my skin. My wife says my skin is just like that of a newborn baby’s!

I sleep so much better and I feel so much better. I no longer wish for someone else’s skin – because I have the skin I always dreamed of, without any nasty side effects from medication.

Weight loss, Sleep Apnea

I wanted to express my gratitude for your excellent efforts in treating me for weight loss & my sleep apnea issues.

As you may remember, I came to you in February 2007, after being diagnosed as having sleep apnea. The sleep specialist doctor that I was referred to said that I was the ‘ideal body type to have sleep apnea & that the only treatment was to use a C-PAP breathing machine. This doctor said it would take only 9 to 18 months to learn how to lay flat on my back & wear a mask to sleep. I asked about other options, he said there were not.

From February to June 2007, I was treated by you & lost over 60 pounds with a combination of acupuncture & herbs from your office. Ankle Sprain

Dr, Shi has magic needles!  I sprang my ankle bad a week ago. Besides the huge bruise over the ankle I could not walk at all. After two acupuncture treatments, I started walking, more than 2 miles again. After 4 treatment, The bruise is gone .  Two thumbs up !!!

Achilles tendonitis

I was suffering from calcific Achilles tendonitis for over a year. I was treating with anti inflammatory drugs, heal supports, boot etc. Some days I could not walk on it at all. Pain was severe.  It would improve and then get worse again. Dr. Shi explained to me that he would cause trauma to me heel basically by putting two needle holes where I was having the most pain. He told me that he could probably fix my problem in five treatments. He said causing small trauma to that area with the needles would send a message to my body to heel that area. I went once a week for three weeks and have been pain free ever since. My pain level was very high when I went to the first treatment .  I must admit that sticking needles into the most painful area was not what I would call fun, but the entire treatment was probably less than a minute and it started feeling better the next day. By the time I went for treatment a week later, My pain was probably down to 20% and 5% by the third. It has felt great ever since. I am very thankful for Dr. Shi’s expertise and recommend him to friends and family.

Foot Drop, Gastritis

During the past year I had two difficult medical problems:
1 was diagnosed with Foot Drop., a condition where I could not lift my left foot. It was caused by a problem with a nerve in my back going down to my left knee controlling the action of my foot.

I was also diagnosed with Gastritis, a painful and uncomfortable condition of the stomach.
For both conditions, my Internist could do nothing for the Gastritis other than recommend a change of diet. I was told Foot Drop could take one to two years to correct, or possibly may never correct to normal.
Prof. Huifang Zhao cured my Gastritis after three treatments. Prof. Huifang Zhao, after nine treatments, brought the use of my left foot back to normal, with no recurring Foot Drop symptoms.
With this excellent care, my problems have been taken care of, and I am most appreciative to Prof. Min Shi and her staff. They treated me in a most professional manner. The staff is very pleasant to work with.

Skin Itching, Nerve Pain

I was first introduced to the Dragon Acupuncture & Herb Center through another clinic of theirs who had gone to them for chronic pain. I went to clinic because of a rash I had that covered my body. I found relief from the constant itching with their herbs and my first sessions with Dr. Huifang Zhao. With time, the whole rash gradually faded away, leaving me with no detrimental side effects that sometimes occur with other treatments.
My next sessions with the Dragon Acupuncture Clinic were for damaged nerve which caused me intense pain from my spine around my shoulder blade and into my breast. Dr. Zhao was once again able to bring me relief to this old problem through regular acupuncture sessions and advice about things I could do to help myself at home.

Stress, Acid reflux and Heartburn

Having just sold my business after eight years and starting back to school for a master’s program, my stress level was pretty high and my acid reflex and heartburn were horrible. Over the counter drugs upset my stomach even more. I started having acupuncture treatment from Dr. Zhao mainly to get rid of the reflex. In addition to acupuncture, she recommended a specific mix of herbs to make into a tea, and I drink that three times per day. Right away after starting the tea, the reflex decreased in frequency. Within a few weeks, most of it had disappeared with only an occasional flare-up, even though I had final exams to fret about. My stress level seems lower, too.

Plantar Fasciitis, weight loss

After 35 years of working on my feet as a hairdresser, I had a few foot problems: Plantar Fasciitis, bone spurs, and Achilles heel problems, my foot pain was at a level 9. With Dr. Shi’s help my left foot is 100% pain free and my right foot is 90% pain free and I feel it won’t be much longer that it will also be 100% in my right foot. At the same time I am also seeing Dr. Zhao for my weight. I have lost 33 pounds and have 15 more to go. At the age of 58, the weight was a little more difficult to lose so it was not rapid weight loss. On average I lost 2 pounds a week, sometimes only 1 pound a week. I am so excited about my results. Plantar Fasciitis

I came to Dr Shi after seeing a regular podiatrist for some pretty intense heel pain, which turned out to be plantar fasciitis.  After the podiatrist gave me three cortisone shorts and a huge ridiculous boot to wear at night, I was at my wit’s end and gave up. On my first visit with Dr Shi I was literally in constant pain. It took several visits and I’m not gonna lie, some pain with each treatment, but now it is completely gone.

Dr Shi is a great guy and has a perfect manner.  He is easy to trust and tells you what he is doing before he does it. He explained to me every step and made sure I felt comfortable.  His office also billed my insurance, too, just in case it was covered (it wasn’t).

There are a couple different offices, this is the only one I’ve been to.  The receptionist is sweet and very accommodating.  I definitely recommend Dr Shi.  Awesome experience and so glad this pain is behind me .

Bell’s Palsy

Dr. Zhao is amazing. I had eye floaters in my left that were so bad I was having trouble not fixating on them. I went to 2 eye doctors and was told surgery or just deal with them were my only options. Tinnitus

I love this place. At first I was skeptical,  but now I’m a true believer. Dr. Zhao is truly wonderful. She explains everything and expertly places the needles. I have tinnitus, ringing in the ears and impossible to get rid of. Dr Zhao has really helped me by reducing its intensity and harshness by over 50% so far. I’ve even had days with a 60 to 90% reduction. This has had a tremendously positive impact on my life. If you have tinnitus you know what I mean. Sinus Issues

Dizziness

Recently my wife suffered from severe dizziness, and vomiting. Next day we called dr. Shi and came in for a treatment. He clearly and patiently explained how bad posture, such as sitting in front of computer for a long hours, and swiping cell phone constantly, would cause neck pain, headache, dizziness, nausea, and many other symptoms. Fatigue, Migraine

Dr. Shi is a wonderfully patient and caring doctor with fantastic bedside manners.

I came to visit him for a variety of reason. I had been on antibiotics for a month and felt my energy completely depleted. I was nauseous and had a chronic migraine – I had extremely low energy and motivation for a couple of weeks and couldn’t take it anymore. On top of that I was experiencing extreme stress and anxiety due to several life issues.

Dr. Shi measured my pulse and administered an acupuncture treatment to my body – I felt instantly relieved after the first session. He also gave me some Chinese herbs to help rebalance my yang. The second (and final) session – Dr. Shi administered more acupuncture as well as suction cups. I honestly feel unbelievably better and already feel my energy and motivation levels increasing.

Cough

My 7 year old had gotten pretty bad cough and fever for over a week, wasn’t able to lay down to sleep at night. Her regular doctor didn’t have anything for her except for some cough syrup. So I decided to try Chinese medicine treatment so she could go back to school. We came to Dr. Shi after reading all the reviews on Yelp.  After the first visit, her fever was gone the next day. The second visit she got acupuncture and some Chinese medicine, her coughing situation noticeably improved and was able to get some good sleep at last. Morning Sickness, Sciatica

Dr. Shi is amazing. A miracle worker. I never write reviews but he has more than exceeded my expectation especially due to the fact I am new at receiving acupuncture and was apprehensive to begin with. Enlarged Prostate

Stroke

On March 31st 2018 I suffered from a type-A- aortic dissection which was followed by a stroke. My family was informed that I had a 20%chance of survival while in surgery. God extended grace and I was given another chance at life to continue serving Him (I am a local pastor). I suffered from left side paralysis and initially was told that I may not be able to walk anymore. After being discharged from Hoag hospital I went through  Physical therapy, Occupational therapy and speech therapy. It was extremely difficult and very discouraging to say the least. I Researched and asked around As far as my recovery options. and  came across acupuncture as being a viable option in treating with post stroke recovery. After several sessions of acupuncture with Dr. Shi, I recovered sensations lost due to paralysis! After one session in particular my wife was driving me home when all of a sudden I noticed the seat for the first time (I *felt* the seat with my back and legs as and was feeling the cool breeze from the air conditioner blowing on my face. In other words, sensations were starting to come back my paralysis was being lifted, acupuncture was helping me. I started walking again. I regularly walk 2+miles on any given day unaided.my best so far is 5miles. When I started walking I  use to walk with a cane or walker. My family use to bring a wheelchair for me because I use to get tired easily just from standing. They would push me when we would go shopping. But through Acupuncture treatments I have recovered nicely and I attribute this to Dr. Shi. I also suffered from a neurological condition called PBA.  After several treatments the laughing reduced in strength and duration. Acupuncture is amazing. If you are suffering from any kind of chronic pain or illness you should meet Dr. Shi and ask if he thinks he can help you. Many issues can be treated with acupuncture. he’ll tell you whether or not he can  help you.  They have over 30+years of experience with acupuncture and Chinese herbs. Covid-19

I was very active and healthy until I had a ‘mild’ case of Covid in early March, just before quarantine. I had all the typical symptoms, went to the ER for shortness of breath etc., but wasn’t admitted overnight as my blood oxygen levels were ok. However, I never completely recovered and am now what they call a Covid ‘long-hauler’. It has been a very long road of chest pain, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, hair loss, and fatigue. At month 4 of this thing, I was being told by western doctors that my issues couldn’t still be Covid related, so I turned to Eastern Medicine and called Dr. Zhao. We didn’t meet in person, but she listened intently on the phone and sent me herbs for all the my post-viral inflammation.

The herbs helped almost immediately and I have now been taking Traditional Chinese Medicine for 2 months, and have improved significantly. It is a slow process, but I couldn’t be more grateful for the help Dr. Zhao has given me. I can take a full breath often now (previously unable) and have much of my energy back. While I still can’t exercise (as it sets the healing back and causes more chest pain/SOB), I have been able to ‘do more’ around the house again, which is remarkably better. Also, in case you are worried about the herbs, I am the most sensitive individual on the earth, and can’t tolerate most medicine (not even Tylenol) or natural remedies. However, I was pleasantly surprised that I’ve not had any side effects from the TCM. My deepest thanks to Dragon Acupuncture. Truly a godsend.

I went to Dragon Acupuncture because I was having trouble with my Iron Levels. I had been craving and eating ice so much that it was causing other bodily ailments. Then I was recommended to Dragon Acupuncture, this was the best decision that I made!

I was seen by Dr. Zhao. She is extremely patient, kind and thorough in knowledge of the proper herbs/teas to use. Although the teas do not taste like “cotton candy” lol she knows her stuff! She is very attune to the ingredients and how they interact with the body. She is also very flexible in scheduling with her patients; my office hours aligned with her hours though this did not deter her from seeing me. We were able to coordinate dates/times that worked for both of us.

Unlike some physicians that would just “write you off” and forget about you Dr. Zhao is not like that. She listens and cares about her patients. You don’t find many doctors like her anymore.

I am still seeing Dr. Zhao for my Iron but I can say with confidence after seeing her I have noticed quite a difference. I can only get better from here!

I have been going to acupuncture for 3 months now with Dr. Zhao. She is one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met and without a doubt very knowledgeable in her field. I’ve been suffering from random gag attacks since I fell ill one time back in November 2018 and was constantly throwing up everyday for a week due to both stress and sickness. Since then, even though I recovered, I still face these random “gagging moments” where occasionally out of nowhere I suddenly can’t breathe, feels like I’m choking and have to gag. I’ve seen my regular physician, did lab tests and MRIs but couldn’t figure out the problem. Then a friend from church suggested acupuncture and highly recommended Dr. Zhao. After hearing me explain my condition, she suspected that I may be suffering from a hyperactive gag reflex and did a series of treatment to relax the muscles surrounding it, or something along those lines. I love this place. Since moving to San Diego I found it hard to trust another acupuncturist. So I make the 74 mile trek to Dr. Zhao whenever I can. This was my first time trying acupuncture for some pain in my chest from inflamed cartilage. I’ve tried to heal it based on medication and doctor recommendations for 3 months with no luck. Dr. Zhao has helped me so much. I was having vision issues that were debilitating.  My eyes were seeing at two different levels, something called vertical heterophoria.  I had gone to specialists who told me there wasn’t a cure.  After working with Dr. Zhao and having a series of session, my eyes began to feel better.  Now my vision is 100% and my sense of well being is restored.

I also went to her for feelings of stress.  I as dealing with some stress at work and it was causing a lack sleep, and anxiety.  She did acupuncture on me again and I was given herbs.  Now I sleep so peacefully and feel a sense of calm.

I go to the one on Yale. I am mr skeptical about a lot of stuff and i was skeptical about this hocus pocus too. i was wrong. i cant say that I’m fully healed yet (still in the middle of treatments) but i can say that since going here, my fatal symptoms have vanished and I keep getting better every day.
so for skeptics, here goes…
session 1- I felt better but still in doubt. didn’t know if it was placebo.
session 2 and 3 – same as session 1
session 4 – omg I went home and ate 2 plates of food. ( for reference, my illness caused me to shed 1/3 of my body weight in 9 months and I have tried everything. western docs have no clue).
session 5  – I stopped losing weight. my pain has actually stopped at times. sever night sweats are almost gone.
session 6 – omg. this is real. it’s got to be. what’s wrong with western medicine? seriously, colonoscopies, endoscopies, MRI, cat scans, ultra sounds, pharmaceuticals… NOTHING WORKED.
Acupuncture works.
Session 7 is on Tuesday.
BTW… no it doesn’t hurt.
I don’t have insurance and was treated with respect. i mean come on, its really cheap compared to a doctors visit.

Came for the first time 1/7/19 with my brother in-law with severe back pain spasms. I knew that Dr Min Shi is good at what he does. He has help my brother in-law to start functioning normal after his stroke so I wasn’t skeptic bout acupuncture. had full confidence in Dr Shi. But man… had no idea he was THAT GOOD! He started his procedure on my back mind you my pain level between 1-10 was a ten!! I was in soooo much pain. Dr. Zhao has helped me so much.  I’m truly grateful for her help.  It’s wondered to feel like myself again.  Her treatments gave me back my sense of well being.

About a year and a half ago I suddenly started having vision problems.  My vision felt off balance and I had constant boat head feeling.  This was accompanied by head pressure and constant sinus pressure, and of course anxiety over what was happening. I had a Ct scan, went to specialists, but no one could figure it out.

Then one day my top back crown fell out.  I went to the dentist and he took an x-ray.  He informed me that I had a big infection.  I didn’t feel tooth pain because it was an old root canal.  When He removed the tooth.  The infection had a 2-millimeter cyst, it had gone through an inch of my jaw bone, and the infection was affecting my sinuses.  He said it was one of the biggest infections he had seen.

After the infection healed slowly my sinuses improved and the head pressure went away.  The vision and balance hadn’t improved that much and I still felt constant tension on the side of my face.

After seeing an eye specialist I found out my eyes were seeing at two different levels and that is why my equilibrium felt off.  They gave me a pair of prism lenses to help my eyes see in unison.  They only helped about 30%.

A few months later I decided to go see Dr. Zhao.  She was so patient and calm with me.  This is what I needed.  She wanted to see me for 6 treatments in a row.  About halfway through the sessions my head tension subsided, I started feeling more balanced.

My prism lenses started feeling worse so I took them off.  When I went to my eye specialist she was so happy to find that my eye alignment had improved quite a bit. She gave me regular prescription glasses with no prism and I feel like myself again.

I’m feeling so good now.  Dr. Zhao is so skilled and I highly recommend her.

I started going to an acupuncture place closer to home, not because I wanted to but I erroneously thought Dragon Acupuncture no longer took my insurance. The acupuncturist I saw was fine but she was no Dr. Zhao! I barely noticed any improvement. As an athlete, I am prone to many injuries. Last year, I had a serious back pain that was so severe, I couldn’t walk without it hurting which made it nearly impossible to do the sport that I love. I went to so many physical therapists and doctors to figure out the problem. As a last resort, I looked up acupuncture and found out online that Dr. Zhao was one of the best. After one treatment, I agree that she is one of the best because I finally was able to walk normally and within 6 treatments I was back in my sport, better than ever.

Recently, I have come back to Dr. Zhao for a hip and shin injury. After examining both, she immediately knew what the problem was and went straight to work on it. I had training later on that day and was very surprised and pleased that I felt no pain whatsoever.

I have full faith that Dr. Zhao can help with any injury that one may have. I highly recommend her because she is a knowledgeable and caring doctor that only has your best interests at heart.

My wife was diagnosed with fatty liver disease, gall stones, and what looked consistent with cancer cells in her liver. Dr. Zhao said she could fix it but it might take a couple months. I am a cancer patient and went through 2 surgeries and several chemotherapy treatments. Between my chemo treatments, I experienced lots of pain and trouble sleeping. The western medications I was prescribed were causing me many side effects including shortness of breath, anxiety, and insomnia. My cancer support group suggested that I try acupuncture to help with my side effects. After careful research, I chose Dragon Acupuncture for the doctors’ solid education and rich experiences, and of course, for their positive reviews as well.

I went to Dr. Zhao for the 1st consultation and treatment. She checked on me, asked many questions and then suggested a treatment plan with detailed explanations. It was like magic that after the 1st treatment, my pain was reduced greatly and I could sleep. Then, I did more treatments which improved my overall recovery. The best thing is that I don’t have to suffer or worry about any side effects anymore.

I highly recommend Dr. Zhao who is professional, caring, and pleasant. She knows exactly what she is doing. The clinic was tidy and quiet (cellphones were not allowed). I never waited more than 5 minutes when I went to visit. The needles the doctor used are all one-time use. The staff at the front was always nice and friendly.

This is definitely the best place for acupuncture. I am so glad that I found Dr. Zhao and feel very grateful for her treatments!

We saw Dr. Zhao for my 5yr old’s sudden thigh pain. She had a minor injury while playing and was limping. I decided to try acupuncture for her and to my surprise, she was walking normally the day after the first treatment. Dr. Zhao was knowledgeable and incorporated a lot of western PT principles into her acupressure and acupuncture. The classic Western treatment is to go on birth control pills (for I don’t know maybe the rest of my life)… feeling like I had nothing to lose, I decided to give acupuncture a try and very happy that I did!

I started treatment with Dr. Zhao on 7/7/18, and my period came two weeks later! Also no more active acne and past acne scars have significantly faded. I will definitely keep coming for more sessions and update my progress here.

P.S. the beds are so comfy I fall asleep every single time.

Dr. Zhao is a brilliant! and caring Dr. I’ve come twice to see her for my sciatica. On both times she has risen to the occasion. My Regular physician was not able at all to help me fix nor manage my sciatica.

Three weeks ago, I came to her office with a partially paralyzed face–the aftereffects of a bout with Bell’s palsy.  I couldn’t shut my left eye.  One side of my mouth sagged, and when I drank water, it dripped out of that side of my face.   I looked like I’d had a stroke.

Back in San Francisco, my doctor told me that time would heal my face.  “It could take up to 6 months, maybe even a year.”   He didn’t recommend therapy, much less acupuncture.  Doing nothing, of course, was not an acceptable solution.

In the three weeks that I’ve been receiving treatment from Dr. Zhou, I’ve recovered about 80-85% of my facial mobility, and will continue to receive treatment to get as close to 100% as possible.   What I like about the doctor, is the assuredness with which she places needles, not to mention the confidence she instills when evaluating your condition.  You can tell you’re in the hands of a real professional.

A few years ago, I received treatment from Dr. Zhao for torn tendons on my right wrist.  The doctors told me that I’d never be able to do a pull up again, and that I’d be challenged doing certain yoga poses.   They told me that my right wrist would never recover the strength or flexibility to perform challenging exercises, and wouldn’t you know, thanks to acupuncture, I’m doing everything the doctors said I’d never be able to do, including pull-ups, hand stands and crow-poses.

FULL RANGE OF MY SHOULDER RESTORED AFTER JUST 5 SESSIONS!

I had hurt my shoulder — torn the rotator — and had not healed to my fullest potential. I had limited movement and tightness when I tried to raise my right arm above my head. After 5 sessions, it was nothing short of a miracle. I got full range of motion back without pain. I don’t know why I silently suffered for so long when this option was available to me. I just didn’t know about it. I wish I had. And that’s why I want to write this review. If anyone is in pain or is limited, please consider trying acupuncture.

I found Dr. Zhao on Yelp like many of the other reviews. I went to see her as I had major fatigue and weakness as well as other symptoms due to a hormonal imbalance. She took the time to listen to me, and immediately knew what was going on and how she could help me. I actually went in for a free consultation but ended up getting a treatment. In less than 1 week, 4 visits with acupuncture and taking herbs, I feel 110% better; fastest results ever! I still have a way to go with getting my body balanced but definitely on the right path with her expertise and intuitive sense on treating the patient as a whole.

As an advanced practice RN, I tend to go with the most compelling evidence, which in many cases favors traditional medicine. But I’m also an advocate for a holistic approach to health care, and keep an open mind when it comes to evidence pertaining to complementary medicine. That’s what led me to Dr. Huifang Zhao, and I count my blessings I found her. I’ve been experiencing moderate to severe pain, spasms, and numbness and tingling in my neck, left shoulders, and left arm due to cervical disc compression and neck/spine straightening (of my normal spinal curve). After numerous [traditional] treatments–including physical therapy, OTC and prescription meds, and ice and heat around the clock–failed to alleviate my pain sufficiently or for more than a few fleeting hours, a savvy and thoughtful PTA suggested I try acupuncture. I went to my first acupuncture appointment with an open mind, but a skeptical eye. I walked out of that first appointment knowing and believing in the healing benefits of this ancient therapy and Dr. Zhao’s knowledge and skills as an L.Ac. After the first session, my pain was minimal at most and the numbness and tingling had stopped. My second session with Dr. Zhao brought even greater relief. Each session was surprisingly relaxing. As warmth flowed through the region being treated, I felt the tension work its way out of me. Once again, as a seasoned APRN, I’m totally floored! Dr. Zhao managed to ease my pain and other symptoms far beyond what traditional therapies have done up to this point. I’ll have a few more sessions to treat my neck, shoulder, and arm pain to maximize my results. I know I’m in great hands!

Dr. Huifang Zhao is really a wonderful doctor and her Acupuncture treatments so far are helping.  I just started coming to Dragon Acupuncture one week ago after trying out another Acupuncturist.  I’m coming here for hormonal balance, fertility & back pain. My case is very difficult and most other places turned me down, gave no real hope or were to busy to care enough.  Don’t get me wrong…they are a very busy office but they are organized!  Dr. Huifang Zhao was open, honest, professional…and wait for it…compassionate.  She was 100 percent open to trying and was kind enough to have a 2 phone consultations with me during a very difficult time.  She was able to explain what she might be able to do with TCM… making only one promise.  She promises all her patients she will give them her BEST.  I decided I wanted to try Acupuncture 4-5xs weekly along with herbs for at least a month to see if my hormones would possibly change.  To my surprise after 3 sessions my body is warm again!  I take this as a good sign as I was previously always cold.  There are many talented and amazing practitioners but in my experience few who can or will explain things in a way you can understand as someone with no real TCM understanding.  I hope to come back with some more good news and update my review in about a month.  As for right now I would say if you are looking for help come here!

I am a real person with real health issues and I’m the one who asked if I could come 4-5xs a week because I really wanted to dive in and see if it would work.

This is a long due review for Dragon Acupuncture. Before I started acupuncture sessions with Dr. Zhao, I have already heard a lot of good things about them. Dr. Zhao helped my friend to conceive twice and helped her during her pregnancy. My mother in law twisted her leg in a dancing practice and I was amazed to see how fast she got recovered by Dr. Zhao’s acupuncture. She also healed my friends’ shoulder and back pain. I went to Dr. Zhao to “get balance” of body. I used to have bloating, a thick layer of white coat on tongue and shoulder pain. Dr. Zhao is very professional, caring and detail oriented. She listens to you and always examines you carefully. With the help of her acupuncture and herbs, I am now much more energetic and sleep much better. The white coating on my tongue has miraculously gone and so as my swollen belly! (people even asked if I have lose weight, but no, I am just more healthier!). For those who are scared of needles, Dr. Zhao is so gentle that you don’t need to worry. She knows exactly where to put the needles and it won’t hurt. In fact, it is very relaxing and I fall asleep almost every time. One last thing, Dragon Acupuncture is very organized and they process the insurance claim professionally, thank to Ofelia and the office team. They will even text you every time to confirm and remind you for your next appointment. I really appreciate all these little details. Thank you Dr. Zhao!

I have suffered chronic neck pain and constipation for 5 years. I tried everything from chiropractic, physical therapy, MRI, upper endoscopy, colonoscopy. But nothing solved my problems. I was tired of constantly taking Laxatives, pain medications and going to endless PT. So I decided to try acupuncture a as a last resort, when standard treatment failed to provide relief. I was skeptical of the needles, but the needles are surprisingly hair-thin. It doesn’t even feel like a pinprick. After my first treatment, my muscles were sore that evening. Then I started to feel better and better after each visit.

Dr. Zhao also showed me a few simple exercises for my neck and lower back. She provided take-home herbal remedies to help with my constipation. Amazingly, it WORKED!!! I started to have regular bowel movement without any abdominal discomfort.

From my experience, sometimes it takes more than 10 sessions to resolve the issue so please do not be discouraged by this fact. The response time for the treatment is different for everyone.

I would highly recommend Dr. Zhao as the knowledgeable acupuncturist. Her receptionist Ofelia is very accommodating and helpful as well.

Dr.Zhao is very good at what she does, this is our second time seeing her for my 12 year old daughter who has had neck pains after a car accident a month and half ago.
We came initially right after the accident for 3 sessions for neck and back spasms and my daughter felt so much better. Last weekend she felt some pain again and we came in to see Dr. Zhao on my daughter’s request. She is very gentle, thorough and make my daughter very comfortable. Dr. Zhao also showed my daughter a couple exercises to strengthen her neck muscles. We came out feeling much better.

My son is 12 year’s old and he’s having tics for a few years. His tics usually gets very noticeable in the spring when he constantly clears his throat. His regular peds suggested nothing except telling us to wait for him to outgrow this.  For three years in a row, I brought my son to Dr. Zhao when his vocal tics got very severe till it bothers him and his classmates. Dr. Zhao usually gives him two weeks of herb medicine to help him, then he will have a good summer and fall. My son is currently on the second week’s treatment this year and I am very happy to see his vocal tics symptom has been gone after one week of treatment!  How amazing the herb medicine is! My wife has had lower back pain for about a year. After the MRI, the doctor recommended back surgery.
Since my wife had previous successful acupuncture treatment (in another country) for another back pain, she decided to try acupuncture again.
When we met Dr Zhao for the free consultation, she used scientific methodology to diagnose my wife’s problem logically.  My wife decided to start the treatment immediately.  The pain at one side of her lower back was gone after that first treatment. The pain on the other side are getting better after 4 more treatments.

I didn’t really believe in acupuncture until now… within 5 min of being evaluated for mu lower back pain (i was walking hunched over like an old lady) the Dr knew what the problem was. She made me feel better after 1 session and even better after each session after that! She even explained the anatomy of the muscles and what she was doing to help. Then showed me some stretches to do at home. I was able to go through all my back pain from my back “going out” without having to take any muscle relaxers and narcotics… (which were not an option because I’m a breastfeeding mom, so that’s why i tried it in the first place!) My back went out Thursday morning, and after 2 sessions i was back to normal by Saturday! I’m definitely a believer now!

I have been seeing Dr Zhao twice a week for the past month and a half. I came here to treat candida and it’s been very helpful. I’ve tried many different protocols and candida diets over the years that has helped but there just seemed to be something that was preventing me from fully healing. I read that candida can be because of imbalances in the spleen, stomach, and liver and that acupuncture could help bring balance to the body to help better heal itself. I really love acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine because it treats the whole body as a whole instead of one part. I came in for candida but it’s also help regulate my period, my hands and feet aren’t cold anymore, I sleep better, wake up more energized and my digestion has improved. I drink the herbal tea that is recommended by Dr Zhao too. When I fair started the acupuncture I wasn’t drinking the tea because I was taking supplements that I had purchased for the candida but we started it a few weeks in and I think that the herbal tea along with the visits has made a big difference compared to just doing the treatments during the visit. I truly feel like Dr Zhao cares and can see that she’s genuinely happy that I am seeing results and improvements with my overall health.

I hurt my neck, shoulder, and back about 4-5x a year either from bad posture, or sleeping in a very bad position.  I used to go to western doctors, but they’d give me painkillers which left me sleepy all day and very unproductive.  I tried acupuncture several years to see what would happen (I hate needles) and it pretty much fixed 60% of the pain the first time I went, and the second time I was pretty much recovered, and could move and turn my neck.  Now, I still hurt my neck and shoulders multiple times a year but I just come here.  There is *always* an immediate improvement and it helps me sleep so. much. better.  I sometimes still take ibuprofen or muscle relaxers to help, but hands down, the skillful acupuncture from this lovely facility has helped me for so many years. Dr. Zhao is great!   My initial intention was to go to acupuncture due to pre-menopausal hot flashes.  What I didn’t know is that there would be multiple issues she would diagnose that all related to each other. More on that below. The tea she gave me to drink and needle choices she made helped me within six visits. It wasn’t my first time using acupuncture so I was comfortable with her using my palms and the pads on my feet. This seemed to really speed up the process of reducing my hot flashes. But like I said, there was more to it than that. Based on my pulse, she could tell that I had some anxiety.  Based on my waist and tongue she could tell that  I was bloated and inflamed. She said it was likely due to dairy and that I should try removing dairy from my diet.  Because of what she said, I did more research and found the dairy can affect hormones. I’ve removed dairy from my diet and hot flashes are gone, anxiety is reduced and the bloating is gone. Dr. Zhao knows her stuff.

My son and I have been going to see Dr. Shi (Dr. Zhao’s husband)for years.  To begin with, my son has serious shoulder injury due to over train at his swimming club.  He has pain, numb sensation for a few years with multiple problems.  We have spent $$$ dolor on his physical  therapy, shoulder specialists,  PRP and stem cell treatments…on and on .  Finally I learned about Dragon acupuncture and took my son to see Dr. Shi.  Just through last summer, with Dr. Shi’s treatment, my son’s suffering finally came to an end!  His shoulders are recovered and he went on to college and became a college swimmer.  Last month in their league championship, he broke the 25 year old  man’s 200 Y IM record of the college, and the 800 relay he and his teammates broke the 4 year old record as well.  We own this to the miracle Dr. Shi.
Last Sat. my son came home for spring break and sprained some muscles on his lower back.  He was in pain.  I took him to Dr. Shi first thing in the morning.  After the Dr. She treated him, his pain level from a 6 went down to a 3.  He saw the Dr. again, his pain level from a 3 went down to 1.  The third time he came back from the Dr. Shi’s office, he was kind running up the stairs to his room.  He has one more treatment and fly back to college.  In just less than a week the miracle Dr. Shi almost got my son’s sprained muscle recovered!  He is truly a Dr. of miracles.

Doctor Zhao was able to diagnose and successfully treat me for leg and back pain that several other doctors and acupuncturists could not. I had been suffering from leg and lower back pain for over three months and it was so bad that I couldn’t walk. I went to an orthopedic surgeon, a few physical therapists, and several acupuncturists all over the LA area before finding Dr. Zhao. None of the other doctors and therapists were able to effectively treat my condition.

I finally found Dr. Zhao a few weeks ago and I felt considerable relief after just the first treatment. I came here because I had a ganglion cyst in my left wrist that caused me extreme pain when I would bend my wrist and especially when I would put weight on it. That means that for the last 3 years I had to quit playing guitar and doing yoga and I have not really surfed, reclined, bumped into anything etc. etc. without pain. I tried all the “put a brace on it”, “put pressure on the cyst”, and “rest it” for years with no improvement. I didn’t smack it because that seemed painful and sketchy. I also refused to have surgery or steroid injections and ended up coming to Dr. Zhao. After a week and a half of seeing her, my cyst is completely gone and has stayed gone!!! I wish I would have found her earlier!! She’s so knowledgeable, nice, straightforward and has the most gentle hands. Also, acupuncture is not nearly as painful as I thought it would be. Half the needles I didn’t feel at all (they’re so small) and to put it into prospective, acupressure/massage I’ve gotten from other people was waaaay more painful. I ended up napping through most of my acupuncture sessions and my cyst went away! Dr. Zhao is a gem!! I’m so grateful to her for giving me freedom back! No more pain! If you have a cyst or any problem, I would recommend her with 100 stars if I could!

Dr. Zhao has been my doctor for ~15 years as she’s moved from one small office on Wilshire Boulevard in LA to an office in Valencia to her beautiful office in Irvine.  I live in Hollywood so some of those longer commutes to see her were challenging, time-wise, but those trips are absolutely worth it.  I tried a few other more-convenient local acupuncturists in the meantime, but none have come even close to her skill, ability to diagnose, ability to heal and her soothing and reassuring demeanor.  Check her credentials!  She’s a true professional, dedicated to one thing; making you well again.

Over the years, she’s cured everything for me from asthma – yes, CURED it! – to physical injuries from too much exercise to the unpleasant side effects of menopause.  To all my mature lady friends out there; if you’re experiencing problems with menopause, call Dr. Zhao TODAY.  She made my lady-parts work like I was a teenager again and my husband is thrilled!  And, she prescribed zero toxic medication to make that happen.

Insurance did not cover acupuncture when I first met Dr. Zhao but I didn’t care because I wasn’t getting the results I wanted from western medicine available to me via insurance.  I pay cash to see Dr. Zhao and am more than happy to do it.  Now some insurance companies recognize acupuncture as a viable and money-saving medical option.  I still pay cash because I want to see Dr. Zhao and my coverage doesn’t include her office.

You have to ask yourself what you value more; do you want to treat your SYMPTOMS, as western doctors are trained to do, and keep a little extra cash in your pocket today but remain sick and those prescriptions that are “covered” by insurance, tap your budget week after week after month after year.  Or, do you want to be FREE from the shackles of unending health problems and prescriptions costs, and finally be well again?

I want to give a huge thank you Dr. Zhao for helping make our dreams come true and help grow our family!  I would highly recommend any woman having trouble getting pregnant to come see Dr. Zhao for treatment.  My husband and I have been trying to have a baby for 3 years now.  My cycles were not regular once I went off birth control.  We tried clomid and progesterone treatments through my Dr. but nothing was working.  I did get pregnant Dec. 2016 and miscarried in February.  We were about to start IUI treatments when I was told to try acupuncture first.  I found Dr. Zhao on yelp and read great reviews so I scheduled an appointment with her and began treatment right away.  I went 2 days per week for 4 months and took the Chinese herbs she recommended.  She was able to get me cycling regularly almost immediately.  After 4 months of treatment we received the news we have been waiting for, I was pregnant!!  I have continued my treatment with her through my first trimester, 2 days/week along with the Chinese herbs.  I am now 14 weeks pregnant and doing great!!  She is so knowledgeable about the female body and really knows what she is doing when it comes to fertility/infertility.  I also love her honesty, she tells it like it is.  She gives great advice on what you should be doing in your daily life to help too.  I highly recommend Dr. Zhao!  She is a fantastic Dr.!

A number of my trigger points are beginning to relax… Dr. Shi utilizes a technique, unlike any I have experienced with other acupuncturists, where he heats the needle after it’s been inserted. The process is rather painful (it borders torture ), but after a day or two, the trigger point(s) do relax and the pain subsides.

Randomly woke up one day with excruciating back pain. Thought simple Advil and stretching would do the trick. As days went on it got worse. There were days i would wake up feeling paralyzed that any movement caused so much pain. A few times i almost had my boyfriend take me to the ER it was that painful. I have a pretty high tolerance for pain so when this continued I knew something was wrong. I went through so many different types of treatment starting with my primary care physician who prescribed medication, chiropractor (1 month), physical therapy (2 months) and lastly an acupuncturist (over 25 visits). All this treatment over a course of 4-5 months and not getting the results I would expected. Finally, out of concern & frustration I went to Dr. Zhao for a consult based on her yelp reviews. Explained to her the series of treatments and how long I’ve been experiencing this pain. She said give her 5-6 visits and she guaranteed I’d be better. I was definitely hesitant to treat with her considering the months of pain, treatment and expenses I’ve already gone through. So initially I declined, went home and did more research. What got me was her thorough exam and evaluation of my pain. Surprisingly she said it wasn’t my back but actually my neck! Her confidence got me and I went back to seek treatment with her. After a few visits, WOW! I was waking up and feeling great. Not 100% but definitely an improvement. After about 6 visits, she was right, I no longer have the pain I felt before. Thank you Dr. Zhao! My 14 year old daughter is a competitive golfer.  She played very well from age 12 to 13.  But, at 14 she started to suffer from injuries, from repetitive swing and motion.  She was off and on in the beginning of 2017 for a couple of months.  She played in March and everything seemed great for a couple of weeks, but the pain came back.

She took another 6 weeks off, then played once in June and was still in pain.  She worked with a previous physical therapist who was also an acupuncturist.  She went through several massage therapy sessions.  We then got an MRI.  Initially it was tendinitis and / or golfers elbow / tennis elbow.  Her pain was in the left shoulder, elbow and wrist.  The inflammation was reduced significantly after several massage sessions, but the tendinitis in her wrist persisted.  She stopped playing or practicing any golf at this point.

After we got the MRI, we were told it was a tendon that ran from her thumb connecting to her wrist that was stretched thin and were recommended to a physical therapist hand specialist.  After working with the hand specialist for about 2 months, twice a week, she was okay’d to try and practice golf again.  Within 1 day the pain came back.  At this point, it was nearing the end of her high school season, and she was eager to play her Freshman year.  So, she took 2 days off after practice sessions and played a season match of 9 holes.  She was in a little pain.  She took time off and practiced a little and played the league championship. She made the cut 2 days in a row playing 18 holes per day.  But, had to ice at the end of each round.

So, the PT and rest did absolutely nothing.  We have a high deductible plan and this has all been out of pocket for us which was very frustrating.  I found Dragon Acupuncture on Yelp because someone mentioned their tendinitis.  So, after the 2nd round of league finals, which was a Wednesday, I brought my daughter to Dr. Zhao on Thursday.  She was treated for pain in her thumb (which Dr. Zhoa referred to as trigger finger), her wrist and her fore arm.  She felt immediate relief.  My initial concern was that this was just a numbing treatment.  But, Dr. Zhao explained that it does provide immediate relief by relieving the pressure, but it will also cause healing because she was penetrating the actual injured tendons.

I took my daughter to get a massage on Friday with a trusted therapist.  Then, on Saturday I took her back to Dr. Zhao for another acupuncture treatment.  On Sunday we drove up north for her 1st round CIF Qualifying, she did not practice.  On Monday, she played 18 regulation holes and did well enough to go into a 5 hole playoff to win a final spot to 2nd round CIF Qualifying.  After 23 holes of golf, I asked her how she was feeling, and she felt really good.  Her wrist was just a little sore, but it didn’t bother her at all. Neither of us could believe it!  It’s now Thursday and I took her to Dr. Zhao again on Wednesday and she performed Acupuncture on her wrist.

My daughter called Dr. Zhao a magician.  Seriously, it was extremely disheartening for her to still be in pain after taking almost the entire year off of golf.  She is amazed by how well she feels.  Thanks Dr. Zhao.

I couldn’t be happier that I have found this place! I had excruciating neck pain and couldn’t wait it out any longer. I called Dragon Acupuncture and was worried I wouldn’t be able to make an appointment right away, however, they were able to take me on the same day! It took minimal explanation for Dr. Zhao to figure out what was wrong with me. I didn’t have to say much and she was able to pinpoint exactly where my pain was! Not only was the treatment a success, but she also gave me tips and advice on some exercises I can do at home to improve my issue. I wasn’t expecting to be cured instantly after just one visit to Dragon Acupuncture, but the one visit did everything for me and more. I felt relief within an hour after my initial appointment but still continue to see Dr. Zhao because she is amazing. She is a great doctor and I will definitely be coming to her more often for other issues as well.

Although I had firm belief that acupuncture worked, it was my first time and I was nervous. I had been suffering with migraine vertigo for about 6 months and no doctor was able to help and finally I had to break the fear of needles and came to see Dr Zhao.

She immediately was able to diagnose what the issue was after doing a simple test. I was fully convinced what she said was absolutely right. I did 5 treatments with her and she did wonders to my migraine. I think what she did was to release tension from my neck muscles. It’s essentially the same as what physical therapy would do but much  more effective and results are immediate.

I wish my insurance covered acupuncture so I can continue going a little longer. I do really appreciate Dr Zhao and I would definitely return when/if I do have problems.

understand for a lot of people acupuncture is somewhat of a mystery. Maybe it provides relief for some and perhaps not for others. Dr Zhao is the best .And I ve seen few other TCM doctors and western doctors too(the one who prescribe a million pills a day). I came to her after I’ve been admitted to the ER for a chronic chest pain .I was soooooooo weaaaak couldn’t even open my eyes .couldn’t walk. The ER doctors said that my vitals r good. But I knew that something is wrong with my body (fatigue ,weight gain ,lack of sleep, dark spots…).by looking at me ,my tongue and my eyes she new that my liver was kind of not ok and that i have a huge hormonal imbalance .she is amazing (I can talk the whole day about her will not say the half of how amazing she is ).my health is improving., I have more energy than before, my pms are not that severe any more. After many months of various tests and following orders from my general practitioner and 2 different specialists, my condition only worsened. Dr. Shi is an amazing miracle worker!

In the last four weeks, I’ve gone in about once every week with different complaints.  First complaint was severe lower back pain out of nowhere.  After one visit with Dr. Shi, the pain was drastically reduced.  Second visit was for bad menstrual cramps that Advil wasn’t touching.  The cramps were completely gone after seeing Dr. Shi and stayed gone during the rest of the cycle.  This week I came in with a horrible migraine that had lasted all weekend.  By the middle of the acupuncture session, headache pain was cut in half; by the time I walked out of the office, headache was completely gone.

Been going there for few months now, first I was there for an over-due flu, been suffered from it for almost 3 weeks, I took everything you can get from CVS and still not get any better, I was really depressed and my body keep shouting down on me. I have been went to visit Dr. Zhao for a month already, and I really recommend this place. The first time I came here was because of my shoulder pain and neck sore. Dr. Zhao treated me very well and my symptoms got much better than before. I am a student and really love play video game and play my cellphone before go to bed…. My husband and I came to Dr. Zhao for various issues we had due to past injuries (back, shoulder, digestion, stress and anxiety). In the past, we had both gone to different acupuncture centers and we felt that they only cared about taking our money more than helping us heal. When we first met Dr. Zhao she took the time to sit down and address our needs and concerns. She doesn’t rush through her treatments which lasts about 45 mins compared to the 20 mins I was used to receiving. She explains things to you in detail and she treats you like family. She even takes the time to go over exercises that you can do at home to strengthen your body and keep the pain from coming back. We both feel great improvement after our appts and couldn’t ask for a better doctor. Other things that I want to mention are that the office is clean, front staff Ophelia is friendly and on top of her game, I never had to wait long and they have two locations to make things convenient for you. Only recommendation is maybe some soft music to listen to while I drift off to sleep in my room. I highly recommend Dr. Zhao. She is very skilled and she will take care of you!

Background: I had sustained a neck strain due to repetitive stress (from over-using my R arm) in late Sept, and went through workman’s comp to see a doctor, physical therapist, and acupuncturist for a few weeks. I eventually quit my job in mid-Nov and moved back to CA, but kept my former acupuncturist’s words in mind — that my R neck/shoulder area was showing a stiffness typically seen with chronic injuries.

After getting insurance in Jan, I decided to visit this clinic to make sure things were all right. Dr. Zhao performed a physical exam, and I still remember her surprise. Apparently, my R supraspinatus muscle had completely atrophied at this point, and Dr. Zhao said she’d never seen a case this severe. But more importantly, she explained that if this muscle remained “missing”, I’d inevitably develop rotator cuff issues.

Based on my treatment history and the severity of my atrophy, she concluded that my initial injury must have involved nerve damage. She put together a plan to stimulate the affected nerve (C4), while treating my chronic neck/shoulder stiffness. Five weeks later (2 treatments per week, combined with casual non-intense arm exercises), you can already see a difference. I’m told that the muscle is now about 50% of its expected size, and I trust that I’ll continue to improve under Dr. Zhao’s care.

A while ago I had pain in my elbow that would not go away until I went to see Dr. Zhao for acupuncture. A massage therapist recommended I try it, and my neighbor referred me to this location. Acupuncture totally fixed my tendinitis!!! Then in early December last year, I injured my back while lifting a heavy bag into a rental car during travels. Subsequent travels just continued to make it worse. I was a mess! Chiropractic care and massage were helpful, but could not fix the problem. Finally, I pursued acupuncture again with Dr. Zhao. It is dealing with the DEEP source of the problem (third layer muscle in mid-lower left back, plus ligaments and nerves in the sacrum). I am a big believer in Eastern medicine. Chiropractic, massage and float tank have all helped, but acupuncture is truly making the big difference. I am nearly back to normal! I highly recommend Dr. Zhao – she’s amazing!! I am so grateful! If you have ever thought of acupuncture but not tried it, you will be in excellent, well trained (in China) hands here.

I had been to my medical doctor, my endocrinologist, and an oral surgeon and they were not able to help me with my problem.  I developed swelling in my neck area and the problem was ongoing and unable to resolve for three months, even with Motrin, steroids, and antibiotics prescribed.  After undergoing an ultrasound and CT scan and being told that there was nothing more that could be done, I was still experiencing much discomfort from the swelling to the point that my swallowing was impacted.  Dr. Shi was the only doctor that alleviated my symptoms.  She has been very kind and reassuring.  The swelling is decreasing and I have been able to resume most of my daily activities.  I am grateful that Dr. Shi was able to help me.

She was able to pinpoint where in my muscle near my neck the problem stemmed and with her  acupuncture, I have seen the difference and my discomfort is gone.  I was not sure if the problem had related from a pulled muscle from working out but questioned all the previous doctors about whether that could have been a factor, but none of them were able to figure it out, except for Dr. Shi. She is well experienced and Dragon Acupuncture has provided top quality care to both me and my husband (who was experiencing back problems at the same time)!

She takes the time to listen and always had availability in her day to see me.  She is truly exceptional and I will continue to be her patient and refer others. Dr. Zhao’s treatments helped to optimize my health during during my pregnancy and at delivery (I delivered my baby without pain medication or interventions).
In addition, Dr. Shi was also very responsive to setting up my appointments. Their office is always clean and inviting. The front desk staff is exceptional and I am always greeted with a smile. Ophelia is one of the girls that works at the front desk. I would give 10 stars if I could.  Dr Zhao was very instrumental in helping me with starting my family.  I had been plagued with several infertility issues and had dealt with years of disappointment and heartache when trying to conceive a child. When my third Endocrinologist had conducted several tests and diagnosed the issues that lead to my infertility, he recommended that I use acupuncture to help with my IVF cycle to hep improve my chance for success.  Dr Zhao was quick to come up with an aggressive acupuncture schedule to help my cause.  She even made sure that another acupuncturist was there to treat me when she was out of the office prior to my IVF date.  She was kind, caring and compassionate and I felt that she wanted this pregnancy as much as I did.

I’ve been to several acupuncturists, the strip mall kind, stick a bunch of needles in you, tell you that you’re cured, and bye bye… Not at Dragon Acupuncture & Herb Center, Irvine, CA.  My acupuncturist, Dr. Zhao is a real doctor, smart, professional, and compassionate to no end.  She quickly and expertly diagnosed the cause of my condition and started me on a treatment plan  which has shown definite and almost immediate results.  The office is pleasant, the receptionists are all great [and cute] and I’ve never had to wait more than maybe 3 minutes for my appointments.  In closing I’ll just state that I hope I never have to see an actual M.D. doctor again.

I have suffered from headaches my whole life.  I woke up with a wicked headache yesterday morning and could barely function from all the pain.  At my aunt’s suggestion, I called Dr. Zhao’s office and was seen within the hour.  Dr. Zhao did acupuncture therapy and cupping.  By the time I left her office, I was feeling much better.  I returned again today and had some more acupuncture therapy and my headache is now 90% gone.  Dr. Zhao is clearly very knowledgeable and really knows her stuff. I’ve had my doubts about somebody sticking needles in me, but have always been intrigued by the concept that stimulating our nerve centers can help heal.  After experiencing severe back and then leg pain following a ski trip, I decided to try this as an alternative.

Pain is gone and I am now well on my way to recovery.   I felt results after the first session and it really kicked in by the third.  In fact, I recently came back from a ski trip and experienced no issues.  Dr. Shi did a fabulous job and Dr. Zhao kept it up.

Take your time and explain what your symptoms are and leave it in their hands.  I highly recommend.

I have been going to doctors for over 14 years trying to get my hypertension under control. Over thirty medicines had been tried with very bad side effects.   When I entered  Dr. Min Shi’s office my numbers were extremely high. I was on two blood pressure medications w/side effects of weight gain, swollen fingers(gout like symptoms of pain),legs and face.  Fatigued, constipated you name it.  After one visit and the herbs Dr. Shi  prescribed, my blood pressure is in the normal range. I can now move my fingers, and all other symptoms are going away or gone.  My second visit was to work on my shoulder that has been out for four years, my old doctors said only surgery would fix the issue.  I could not raise my arm passed level with my shoulder.  Two treatments with Dr Shi and I  have full range but will need one more treatment for full recovery.  So three treatments for full use verses operating on my shoulder.
I haven’t taken any of my old medicines other than a water pill (Hydrochlorothiazide)10 mg if my blood pressure bottom number gets above 90 as suggested by Dr. Shi,  that doesn’t happen often.
This is all within a  one week time frame.  I am extremely happy with Dr. Shin.  He has vast knowledge of Chinese medicine and how acupuncture and herbs work in our bodies to help the body heal itself.  He has helped me gain back energy and health, I  Thank you Dr. Shi.

Amazing.  Dr. Shi has been able to not only help me but my entire family.  I went to see him for the first time about 4 months ago.  I had pain in my back that I had lived with for years despite multiple visits to various doctors, chiropractors, physical therapy and medications.  My back had reached an almost unbearable point; while I was waiting for a referral from my insurance company to visit a specialist, I decided to try acupuncture as pain management.  I google searched and luckily decided to try Dragon Acupuncture.  When I walked in, I could not stand up straight, get out of bed on my own, get up and down the stairs, etc… After one visit I was 50% better and after three visits, I cancelled the referral for the back specialist.

Since then, I have had approx. 12 treatments for various ailments, all of which have helped or “cured” the problems.  One of these ailments was a 20+year old knee injury.  My knee ALWAYS hurt and I couldn’t run or jump at all.  I had surgery on it about 15 years ago and still had no relief.  Dr. Shi told me he could fix it; I didn’t believe him.  Last week, I ran stairs, the beach trail, did step exercises with my personal trainer (you get the picture) Dr. Shi did two treatments on my knee and it’s never felt better.

I had three strokes in 2010.  Starting in mid-April my upper right side of my mouth started feeling pain.  That’s the part of my mouth was weak after the stroke.  I first I had thought it was my teeth and so I decided to go to dentist.  He filled a several cavities and I had also a root canal, but the pain was getting worse.  He told me it might be TMJ pain.

So I went to a neurologist and starting to go for acupuncture with Dragon.  This is the first time for acupuncture for me. The neurologist gave some meds that help the pain, but Dr. Huifang Zhao at Dragon helped me more. I was going twice a week but after 4 weeks the pain dropped considerably.   After six weeks my pain was still there a little, but she said the pain would stopped in a few weeks.

It did.  I don’t feel pain, but the weak muscle is feeling tight and now I can do my mouth exercises.

I first start seeing her hoping acupuncture can help me with regulating my endocrine level without interventions from Western medicine. What ever she did on me and the herbal tea she gave me worked. I was very happy with the outcome and my condition has been being stable. I am on regular/maintenance treatment plan with Dr. Zhao.

Dr. Zhao is also very good with pain management. She also treated me for my lower back pain and neck/shoulder pain once a while. The pain usually went away within 1-2 treatments. I always feel relaxed and energized after each treatment; just laying in my own treatment room, enjoy the light music playing in the air and napping/meditating while the treatment is going on.

I have sent couple of my friends to see Dr. Zhao for different concerns, like allergies, anxiety, fatigue, insomnia, and weak digestive system. All I can say is acupuncture and herbs worked for them. They were all happy and grateful with Dr. Zhao’s help.

I will definitely recommend Dr. Zhao to anyone who is interested in Oriental medicine and wants different opinion other than Western medicine.

Dr. Shi is great. He really knows his stuff. I’ve been going twice a week for about a month now and he has fixed so many things. Dr. Zhao was incredibly responsive. I called on a Sunday, when they were closed, and received a call back within two hours.  They squeezed me in for a next day appointment and worked with me financially, so that I could receive treatment for an illness that western doctors were unable to treat.

Dr. Zhao is very gentle and kind.  She explains the procedures and always checks to make sure you are comfortable and not in any pain.

The office itself is great, very clean with all the necessary equipment.  The staff is friendly and willing to work with your schedule.

Prior to my first visit @ Dragon Acupuncture I was a skeptic about this type of treatment since I never tried it before but now…let me tell you I’m a true believer, I recommend everyone I know to try it at least once. I used to live about 15 min. to the Acupuncture place and I was treated for about 2 months for my problem, at that point I can honestly say I felt about 80% cured, then I moved to San Bernardino County and because of the move I believe I had a re-laps since I didn’t follow the Doc’s orders. My pain became as bad as it was when I started my treatment so I tried several Acupuncturists in my area and even though the treatments were somewhat different there were no results. I had to make the choice of having to go back to see Dr. Zhao which meant I had to drive 1:15 minutes each way just to get treated. It’s been a month since I started my treatment again and my pain went from a 10 to a 4. I maybe 75-80% cured. : )  I’m more than willing to drive the distance because she is a shore thing; I feel it’s a guarantee for me that I will feel like a normal human being again. I tell Dr. Zhao that she is my miracle worker but in my heart she another my angel!

My family and I have been visiting Dr Zhao for the past three years for a variety of conditions and injuries. We (family) believe in a natural, holistic approach towards the treating of illnesses or injuries. Help the body heal itself.

The first time I visited Dr Zhao for help- I was very nervous and honestly-a little skeptical about the effectiveness of acupuncture. She helped put my mind at ease and the results of her treatments made me a believer in this form of treatment. Dr. Min Shi is an incredibly talented, intelligent and sweet man.  He takes his time when learning about my multiple conditions, and gets to know me personally.  He is genuinely concerned for my well being.  He never rushes me or makes me feel uneducated.  In fact, I asked him about acupuncture one day.  He sat down and talked with me all about it for at least 20 minutes!  The front office lady is so sweet and helpful.  I have always had a pleasant experience every time I’ve gone in.  I highly recommend this location!

The best! I initially went to have my Qi balanced. The doctor reviewed my general health on my first visit and told me I needed to correct my digestive system first. Good thing I listened. After being told by multiple doctors I needed to be gluten free among other things, I just was never going to be able eat everything like I used to. Wrong. The real problem was my upper and lower intestines weren’t working at the same time, which was corrected with acupuncture. Now I can eat whatever I want, no problems. After that, I went twice a week for anxiety, which has been completely relieved without pills or medication. He cleared my adult acne too with herbs and acupuncture. I went today for sinus/allergies and can completely breathe clearly. And as a last rave, according to the doctor, my Qi is balanced too! He initially said it would take a year, but only took 4 months. Smiles on all fronts! best advice I can give, is to be honest about ALL of your issues when you visit. I’m certain he will come up with a plan to make you feel like a million.

I have been in pain for over 2 years. I went to many doctors for my pain, everyone would say we can take care of it but, the pain never got better. Then one day I was talking to someone at the health food store and they told me about acupuncture. I came home and searched for a good doctor, and I came across Dr. Shi & Dr Zhao .I read their profile and I knew I wanted them to treat me. I made my appointment with Dr Shi, and that was the best thing that happened to me. I have been under his care for about 2 months, and I am happy to say I am feeling good now. Dr Shi, is very devoted to his patient. In the 2 months of treatment I had many other health problems, which he has helped me with. I thank you God for leading my to Dr Shi, because if it was not for him I would not be feeling good today. Anyone with any health problems I would highly recommend you see Dr Shi. Once again Thank you very much for all your help in getting me better. I really appreciate it.
